Open bar disagreement...

If the package you got comes with open bar go for it. If you are trying to save money take an hour off of open bar. Also you are the host so if anything do the open bar.

Absolutely do not make your guests pay for their drinks, I agree its just plain tacky. You could serve beer, wine, wine coolers and maybe have 2 signature drinks to keep the cost of expensive spirits lower.

Honestly it’s your choice, not really tacky but at that point why bother? You’re buying the booze anyway and if you charge $5 you might get half your investment back, maybe.

Me and my fiancé were talking about this too but I wouldn’t charge and now he agrees we shouldn’t if you are worried about spending a lot on alcohol maybe put a time limit on the open bar the last wedding I attended had open bar for two hours and then people had to pay after that but they used a vendor

I would be willing to compromise with hosted beer, wine, a signature drink and perhaps guests pay for anything else.

This took a looooong time for me to get to this as I grew up with a mom in the restaurant business and anything less than an open bar made her cringe, lol!!!

I agree with everyone else. It’s a little inconsiderate to invite people and then tell them they have to buy their own drinks.
Maybe you can imply that it’s BYOB so everyone should bring theirs beer??? Still a little tacky but a little less insulting than asking everyone to pay their way.

It is not unheard of for guests to pay for their own drinks at a wedding, but, it will undoubtedly disgruntle your guests. I've never attended a wedding that had anything less than an open bar, but every single friend of mine who has attended a 'pay-for-drinks' reception has come complaining about it the next day onward!
