Has anyone had a GOOD experience with purchasing a wedding dress online?

There are some sites (like BHLDN and Cocomelody for example) that are legit sites. Others like JJs House, DHGate, DressilyMe are knockoff sites that will very likely take forever to send you pieces of shit.

Brief online shopping guide: Read reviews, look at the grammar on the sites (was the site written by someone that clearly didn't learn English as a first language?), pay attention to whether the stock photos are from one source or they're obviously picked from various sources.

I ordered my dress online from David's Bridal. It worked out well for me.

But I would recommend a place that you know has a great return policy.

Like La Grosera said beware of chinese knockoff sites. I'd recommend only buying from legit bridal sites like BHLDN or David's Bridal, or preownedweddingdresses.com which a lot of the time gives bust/waist/hip/height measurements.

Ehh.. I bought a dress off of Amazon and it was okayish. However I decided that it wasn't what I wanted and went to Davids Bridal, tried on a ton of dresses and decided on a beautiful dress that I love.

Dressilyme actually worked out just fine for me but I stayed away from lace dresses since the horror stories I usually see involved lace. Just lower your expectation. I knew it wouldn't look 100% like the picture but I still really liked the results. It was $200, custom measurements and I didn't require anymore alterations. It took about 3 weeks to get mine.

@Heather S. The $99 sale, can you tell me more? I've been looking at DB online and the dresses I think I like are on sale for 900 and up. I am trying to get in shape before I start really dress shopping

I order most of my clothing online since I dress day-to-day in retro, vintage (1940s, 50s, and early 60s) and pinup style clothing.

I order from UniqueVintage.com and ModCloth.com all the time without issue, though the former also have a store in Burbank, CA. In the past I have also ordered from Etsy, PinupGirlClothing.com (has a store in Burbank, CA), TrashyDiva.com (has a store in New Orleans, LA), and HeartofHaute.com without issue and similar style clothing sites. All of these sites have bridal, bridesmaids and alternative wedding dress options in a full range of sizes.

With ordering online it's really about knowing your measurements, your general body shape and how certain cuts and drapes will look on it, and scouring the reviews, pics, and posts of people who've bought from them, ideally in your same size or close to it.

How are those dresses at Cocomelody so cheap? Is the fabric good?

I'll say go to David's Bridal! I got my dress for 60% off. However, if u need alterations done go somewhere you know will do a good job other than David's... they charge a lot just to cut off a tiny piece

PLEASE go try on dresses. In an actual store.

You might have a vision of what you want, but you might end up with a completely different style. Even if you don't end up buying a dress at that store that every day, at least you'll have an idea of the style you want.

The sizes are also different (run small, big etc.) so I cannot stress enough how important it is to get measured and try on dresses with a professional.

I LOVE my $100 dress that I bought online. They had amazing customer service and I sent them my measurements so I think that helped. It fits almost perfectly, but I do still have to have it altered a little, but I told her to make a little room in it so I think that's why. I did some research, read all of the reviews and figured that if it didn't work out, I was only losing $100 and that was worth it to me.

Agree with LovroftheArts. I bought my dress off of Etsy because it's a 1940's wedding dress

Just an fyi... I bought my dress at Davids Bridal and on the website it is listed on sale for 899.00 but when I went to check out it was actually only 499.00. A very nice surprise, and it may only be by store location, but worth knowing about.

I ordered my daughter's flower girl dress from JJs House and it is beautiful. Really better quality than what I expected as far as material goes (ESP for the price). She hasn't tried it on yet, but I have taken a pretty good look at it and no snags or weird sewn spots or anything. I was actually considering using them as a back up in case the dress I ordered doesn't work out since they shipped hers very quickly.
