The main difference would just be that ordering a dress in person at a store allows you to see the quality and structure of the dress prior to ordering. There are a ton of horror stories of brides who ordered their wedding dresses online and what they received was nothing like the photos or was really cheap material, poor construction, etc. if you are thinking of ordering a dress from a designer on Etsy, make sure you check out the reviews from other customers. It’s especially helpful if there are photos from customers, so you can see how closely the final product resembles the pictures.

As long as you avoid Chinese knock off shops (JJ's house, DHGate, countless shops that have stolen pictures and no address are generally based out of China) you will be fine.

Also if the price is too good to be true, it is a knockoff to avoid.

I ordered my legal ceremony dress off Etsy and it was amazing!!! The designer sent me so many sketches and pictures of fabric and updates on dress production. It was a very positive experience!

I know it's very scary buying a wedding dress online, you just have to do lots of research but there are tons of places with good priced and beautiful dresses. I actually bought mine on Etsy! The store is "wedboomstore". It's an European store, they have the main one in Ukraine, and since they don't have any stores here in the US they sell through Etsy. I bought my dress for almost 400$. If you need to do any alterations or you want to change anything on the dress they do it for free. I do recommend going to an actual store to try dresses and see what type of dress looks good on you and then get your measurements and send them to the online store you're buying from. Again, just make sure you do your research on the store and look at reviews.

Check reviews on Etsy! If you’re concerned about potentially not loving the dress, but you want to order online, I’d recommend checking out BHLDN- not only do they offer returns, they have gorgeous gowns and the sale section of the website is awesome!
