...Well I shouldn't say it like that. We met on Saturday and we hit it off with him and were happy to extend him an offer to work with us and he accepted. Today I find out he's made a scheduling error (didn't realize it was a Sunday) and wanted us to change the time of our wedding. Obviously, I told him that wasn't a possibility and he said he's committed to us so he would make arrangements. That didn't feel right to us so we told him we feel his first priority should be his congregation and we would "release" him of his commitment. Soooo... Back to the drawing board.

This has me thinking Though... Why is it so hard to get a "real" minister to marry you if you don't have a church you belong to? Are church goers the only ones entitled to a marriage under God?

We realize we're not really in a bind here because we have time, we just really liked him and are disappointed with how things turned out. :-/

I have no idea if she has a church of her own, but we love our officiant and highly recommend her. She is based in central pa and conducted our friends' ceremony last weekend in Lancaster. Here is her info- http://innerpeaceministries.net/main/

We don't get to have any say in our registrar. For civil rather than religious ceremonies it is determined by the area (local authority) in which you get married and who has availability on the day. Apparently we can phone up and find out their name a few weeks beforehand, but other than that we'll first meet them on the day just before the ceremony. I just have to hope that they are good at their job and at public speaking, and bear in mind that whatever happens we'll end up married. A little bit scary!

@Jemma - I was amazed to find that all wedding venues are tied to a particular registry office! In Aus you just book whoever you want for your civil ceremony! Luckily for us FH's father worked for the local council our venue is in so he knew our registrar.

@Shannon that's handy! We met a great registrar when we went for our planning meeting, but he said it would have been him except he's on holiday that day so he doesn't know who it will be. I'm sure they must all be pretty good at it else they wouldn't still be doing the job, right? For the amount we're paying (£498 in Hertfordshire including two certificates) I should hope they have some personality!

As you said in your post, a minister's priority is his church. So it's easier to get a minister if you're a member of his church. Also cheaper/free.
