Offbeat non traditional weddings

Michelle, on May 18, 2024 at 4:35 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 7
Is your wedding different from the norm? For example, any combination of low budget, black dress for the bride, restaurant drop off catering, emo hour for the reception, and the list goes on. What are you doing that is non traditional or unusual?

We're not really doing anything unusual, but I am skipping some of the usual things. For example, our only photography will be a wedding portrait, and I'm not getting hair or makeup done. No bouquets either.

... well, my dress is emerald green lace with sequins. So I guess that's a little unusual. And I got it off a department store clearance rack! $

    How about you?

We didn’t have a cocktail hour and meal. We did a small plates reception with a variety of appetizers and desserts. People seemed to enjoy it, but it’s definitely outside the norm in our area!

That does sound lovely. If it worked with the day's schedule, I would have liked to do that. But as it is, people will definitely be hungry!

In addition to what I wrote above, our reception is going to be pretty simple as well - just hang out, have lunch, and have fun! The one standard reception activity we have planned is cake cutting. No first dance, no parent/child dances, no toasts, no throwing accessories around Smiley laugh

Yeah, we specifically planned for afternoon — started after lunch, finished before dinner! But the appetizers were still plentiful, so anyone who came hungry had plenty. 🙂

I wore 2 black dresses. We hosted a haunted tour as part of our welcome party. We had a string quartet play metal and rock songs at our ceremony, and we had a live flambé performance for dessert.

Ha ha. I think my whole wedding/reception is un-traditional. First time bride at 61 yrs old..
We're having a courthouse ceremony, just us, the judge and a photographer. I'm wearing Lula Kate short bridesmaid's dress. Later, we're hosting a reception/dinner in a private space at a restaurant we like. I expect about 20 guests. No band, no dancing and NO GIFTS! I'm DIY'ing my flowers and the table decor.
All I want is to share this moment with my siblings and my closest friends in the world.
