Off beat brides?! Unwhite wedding

Nina, on March 20, 2020 at 10:52 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 11
Hi all so me and my partner decided to go completely off the beaten path and do an “un-white” wedding. It’s tropical theme with massive amounts of pink, orange, yellow, palm leaves and fuchsia. I do sewing as a hobby and already sewed an all pink tiered ball gown (which took months) and I’m currently cutting and designing the bodice which has me major stressed out!

My hubby is completely on my side with EVERYTHING!!! My immediate family is supportive as well but when I discuss the topic/theme with coworkers/friends I get MAJOR negativity and nasty comments like “That’s not a wedding” “are you confused with your birthday party” and even “we’ll that’s not going to last if you look at that wedding”. It’s kinda making me feel isolated to just my family and hubby to talk to about planning and is kind of making it not fun anymore. So in short I need friends who are daring to be different on their wedding day as well!

I’m sorry your friends and coworkers aren’t being supportive! That’s really frustrating. But I would just try and brush it off and stick to talking to your family about planning. It’s your day and you can wear and plan as you please without negativity! Our wedding will be relatively traditional, but I love seeing brides step outside of the box and do unique things with their weddings! All couples are different and I think it’s really cool to see people plan weddings that correlate with their personalities. Also, it’s amazing that you are making your own dress. I LOVE that.

I love nontraditional weddings! They are always so much more fun and less stressful! Keep doing what your doing and the day of people will realize you made a great choice and a beautiful wedding! Your dress sounds awesome!

Don’t share any details! Untraditional weddings are way more fun & memorable. Plus, you both will love your wedding more if it’s more “you.”

It’s your wedding. You decide what you wanna wear.

A friend of mine went with black wedding gown and most of the family members and friends were shocked. I know her good, black is her favorite color, and all I see was her happy face, and that’s what it is all about!

So sorry for having to deal with that negativity! No one will confuse a wedding for a birthday! If they hate the idea that much, they don't have to go. Stay true to what you want since it's your style and your day. I've seen gorgeous nontraditional styles at offbeatbride.com. Guests will remember it as unique and that is not a bad thing.

Personally I have no desire to wear a white dress or do any of the traditional things because "it's a wedding" since it doesn't fit my style.

This is so awesome! I mean, the colors and inspiration! Don’t let their close-minded negativity get to you. You do YOU! That’s all that matters.

That sounds awesome! What makes it a wedding is that it’s a party for two people getting married. That’s it. No requirement for all the white wash. I dig it. That sounds awesome.
