October wedding start time

Andrea, on March 29, 2019 at 3:43 PM Posted in Planning 0 8
October brides!
How early are you starting your ceremony? We are hoping to have an outdoor wedding with the reception being held at the same venue. I’m torn on how early to start our ceremony. Sun sets around 5:55pm. Is 5pm too late?? Check in at the hotel isn’t until 4 so I’m worried about starting at 4:30pm... although the hotel is 5 minutes down the road.

Help!! We’re getting close and I need to actually finalize our start times.

Thanks in advance!

We got married October 6th and started our ceremony at 4pm with an outdoor cocktail hour and dinner, then moved inside for dancing. I wouldn’t let hotel check in times dictate your ceremony start. When I travel out of state for weddings I always book a room the night before to avoid that or just have them hold my bags and check in after.

5pm is way too late! I was a BM in my FBIL and FSIL's wedding in October, and their ceremony was at 5pm. They were late to start to begin with, and it didn't get going until like 5:10/5:15ish. After the ceremony, which took about 20 minutes, the photographer was rushing to take photos because they were losing light. Long story short, the pictures did not come out very good, and they were barely able to take any photos with the bridal party. We got like maybe 4, but not much variety at all. Bride and groom were pretty unhappy, but then again, they should've factored in sunset before setting the time. Their fault. You're doing the right thing by asking and thinking twice about it.
My suggestion is to start at 4:30 at the latest! Don't worry about the hotel check in. That's the least of your worries. Usually hotels will let you check in a little early if the room is available.
My wedding in June will be starting at 4pm. The earlier the better for me so I have more time to dance and enjoy the party since our venue only goes until 10pm

We are planning on a 5:30 start time but we are taking all photos before the ceremony, so I think it'll be pretty if the sun is setting towards the end of our ceremony. Our cocktail hour is outside but there are heaters and strung lights in that area, and then we'll move inside for dinner/reception. If we need to, we can change the ceremony to 5:00 so I plan on confirming with the photographer before we order invitations.

5pm is very late. Depending on where you live, October can be chilly. When we planed for October, we wanted our ceremony to start at noon.

Our day is 10/19/19 and our ceremony is starting at 5:30. We are doing pictures beforehand starting at 1pm/2pm. We have a tent option if it is raining or too cold that day. Plan for what works for you, be aware of what could happen, and have contingencies.

We're planning for 3:00 or 3:30 for our ceremony. If you're doing a first look and wedding party photos before and a short ceremony, a later start time could work.

We are wanting to have ours at 11:00AM but I also have a 9 hour drive to Florida immediately following the reception!
