October 2nd Upstate ny Wedding

Nicole, on July 17, 2020 at 1:43 PM Posted in New York Planning 0 6
Hey everyone!
Wedding planning is nearly impossible during this time and after NYS mandated that weddings fall into the 50 person maximum gathering category, it literally became impossible. I have been racking my brain and think I have found a solution that will at least work for our guests that I wanted to share! Our venue is more than happy to work with us on making it work!

We want to have a 50 person “cocktail party” for a couple hours after our ceremony, say for 2 hours. Then we will have a 1.5-2 hour break for pictures while our venue cleans/changes out linens/sets up for dinner. Then we will have another 50 person “dinner party” for a couple hours. Yes it will be hectic, yes we will have 2 separate reception invitations, yes we will have 2 separate cake cuttings, yes we will have 2 first dances but we technically will be able accommodate 100 people on our special day.
It may not work for everyone or every venue but I want to throw it out there as an option. We (and our venue) are very excited about this and I have not been excited about planning since pre-COVID!

This is really interesting! Which people are invited to the ceremony? And how will you make sure a certain group doesn't feel like the "B listers"?

We are lucky that we are having our ceremony at a church which can go by the 25% capacity rule and can accommodate up to 200 guests. It will also be live-streamed on their website for anyone who can’t attend.

We do have to pick and choose each 50 person group which is difficult but we are trying to make each party feel like a party. Both open bar, both a variety of food and desserts, both we will have our entrances, first dances, cake cutting and music so guests feel like they attended the “real deal.” I understand it’s not perfect and I hope our guests understand we are trying to do our best to accommodate everyone!

I honestly love it; it sounds like such a great idea! More work for y'all but totally worth it!

Something to consider may be what the people going to the ceremony and the second party will do in the middle? Maybe travel distance, familiarity with the area, etc. could help you decide that? Good luck and I hope it works out! It's such a great idea!

Thank you! We are excited about it, but it will be a lot of work. That is a great idea about the guests that come to the second party, definitely something to think about when choosing invites! Thanks!
