ny Brides | Covid Wedding Guest Update from Cuomo

Eyonna, on January 29, 2021 at 2:11 PM Posted in New York Planning 1 36
Hi ladies. I just wanted to share that I heard on the news beginning March 15 Cuomo is allowing “safe” weddings with 150 person capacity as long as everyone is tested and receives negative results. In addition to it being on the news here is the link to the article from News 4.

I'm very excited about this! My wedding is May 29. I'm a little concerned about the logistics of getting everyone tested and I'm not sure how my guests will feel about it. But I'm just excited to get to invite everyone.

Same. My wedding is May 21st. I'm hoping that the next 6 weeks the logistics will get worked out. FH and I were just talking about that, like how is it going to work and like you said, how are our guests going to feel? We do have time (not like its a lot of time) but this does make me happy and who knows maybe testing won't be needed by then.

Right now we have a 10 person gathering limit Smiley ups but our venue is hopeful we can at least be at 50% capacity by the spring.

Our venue in Orange County NY was speaking with their office and I was first told 200 they were pushing for, and now officially hearing 150. Our guest list was at 200 then we trimmed it down to 185 and now I don't even know who else to cut b/c 2/3 are family! It'll basically be all family and no friends besides the bridal party at this point ::sigh::. I am grateful to know that our wedding will happen for sure now though. Hopefully the number increases in the future. Though I'm not sure what my guests are going to think about taking a test, at least I can still invite them and if they don't come it's not because I couldn't invite them! I'm also thinking about plan A and plan B lists now..even though I'm not entirely thrilled about it.

I'm so pleased with this decision. I was going to ask guests to do it anyway, I'm glad it's required now. If they don't want to do this, then they can stay home and watch on zoom!

I was July 2020, now August 2021...so this is really important. But, how does anyone go about sending "save the dates" or invitations. I sent save the dates last January...and never sent anything following that because we were uncertain if we could ever invite more than just immediate family and close friends...so does anyone have any idea how they are going to proceed if they have a summer 2021 or fall 2021 wedding? Are you just keeping this information verbal or sending out save the dates AGAIN...my biggest issue is sending a save the date to someone again, and then not being able to invite 150 people and then having to disinvite someone...but then again I have a contract for 150+ people...so to recap What is everyone with NY weddings this spring-fall doing in regards to this news?

Plan as 150 guests. COVID numbers will probably go down between the vaccine coming out and it being Summer/early Fall. I really don't see the guest counts changing drastically and decreasing again *knock on wood* The venues/businesses cannot continue functioning the way they have been.

I sent a save the date as a courtesy to all our 135 with the notation that we would most likely have to cut the guest list, but wanted them to know they were on list A (FH has a huge list of family and friends); we also noted the possible cut of guests on our wedding website. Thankfully I didn’t do invitations yet, and we can now invite our full list and include the required Covid testing. If they would like to come they have to get tested. If they don’t want to do the test they can’t come. I’m sure in the coming weeks there will be logistics from the state on how that will happen.

That sounds great...I am hesitant to send out save the dates again just yet...I really am concerned with how to word any of this in an invitation regarding covid testing...I'm happy theres a bit of hope to return to somewhat of a normal wedding but I just don't know how to go about it..

I am October 22nd and I feel like the testing will still be in place. We legally got married this past October but put the big wedding off for this October and basically I let the wedding party know about the testing and I have been kinda word of mouthing it to people slowly. When I do send out save the dates I think there will be at least a little more information about how the testing will work... I plan on noting that covid tests are still required unless it changes by the time I send invites out. I’m sure some of us will loose some guests regardless because of testing. My worry is, what if someone doesn’t get tested like they should have? I assume testing will need to be done like a day or two before or so which is when the head count is needed. I’m just kinda like... is this gonna be a headache when a few days before everyone is going off about not making it to get tested and now can’t come or whatever the case!

I’m honestly happy about the testing requirement. We would have wanted to ask our guests to get tested anyways (we will have some important older and extremely at risk attendees) and now we can blame the state!

How are people going about making sure every guest is tested? Like how are we as hosts supposed to track it?

I would assume it’s going to be up to the venue. Kinda like how the hotels need to ask for proof of test results

I just saw Cuomo put out another brief article about socially distanced dancing will be allowed... has anyone’s venue explained what this will look like?

I don’t understand how they’re going to do this with the dancing... 12 ppl on the dance floor at a time? Lmao that is going to look pretty funny. Def going to have to ask my venue how it’s been once this is in effect
