While we're not actively TTC yet (much to my mom and MIL's dismay!), I am going to quit taking the pill and hopefully get my body back on its natural track. I took my last active pill over the weekend, and expect to start my cycle this week and then will not start a new pack on Sunday. I've read several articles that say the effects of coming off it can be pretty brutal. :/ Acne breakouts (which is awful because I've already started having issues with this probably 5 months ago now), weight gain (which is also awful because I gained back ALL the weight I lost prior to the wedding on the honeymoon), mood swings.

For those of you who have gone off the pill, what happened to you? My pill was Trinessa (generic for Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo) if that means anything.

I was on Ortho Tricyclen Lo before baby and nothing really changed about my body (no weight gain, no acne). Besides using it for BC, I was taking it also to help with my painful menstrual cramps. Right around when I suspected I was pregnant, I was about to start the placebo pills. Of course, after the pregnancy tests, I stopped taking it so I can't tell which was a side effect of the pill or the pregnancy.

WEEEEELLLL, since u asked....I went ON the pill for ONLY 1 month and now I have a central vein occlusion (like hemorrhaging in the retina)!!! ugh its been horrible I already spent $1,200 (for lack of insurance) and I never expected that this would be caused by the pill. But, the Dr's can't find any other reason for it, I'm in great health, it's unusual for someone my age to get this and they say its usual for women on the pill to get clots. Its been an ordeal and now I'm suppose to get an injection in my eye!!!. Anyway ofcourse I had to stop the pill and like the rest said I got the acne ( I always had but it was clearing) The scariest part of getting off was that I was late the next month! I swore I was pregnant! In between periods I had "spotting" for 2 days! and I had cramps for 2WEEKS!(well minor) then I had major cramps on my real period and soo much bloating the FH thought I gained weight. OOO and I should also mention sensitivity on BOTH breast. SO ladies please be careful

It's not "usual" for BC to cause clots, but any estrogen is a risk factor for them, which is why you're not supposed to take anything that contains it if you have other risk factors.

Asian~Wife: As far as migraines go, they might actually get better--or they might get worse. Many women do have them associated with hormones, and going off the Pill will definitely change the hormones in your body. I've actually not had a migraine since I went off Depo, but it hasn't been that long so I'm not sure if it's just a natural lull or not.

For women who are TTC or will be TTC in the nearish future, they recommend a minimum of 800mcg folic acid daily. Most multivitamins only contain 400, so you should add a supplement. (You can take up to 4mg a day, according to the OB I saw on Monday, so even if you take an 800 or 1000mcg supplement with your regular vitamin, it's fine.)
