NWR: Does anyone have an industrial piercing?

J.J, on March 21, 2010 at 12:57 AM Posted in Planning 0 10

Ok so Thursday FH and I got into an argument and he made me mad so when he went to work I went to the mall with the intention of spending some money. I ended up aggrevated because nothing would fit right so I did the unthinkable...I went and got pierced. I have wanted an industrial for a while now but had planned to do a little research on healing time and what not. So I was wondering if anyone else has one and how long it took before you could sleep on that side of your head again? I have barely slept since getting it done because I fall asleep on the side the piercing is on. I was also wondering how long I have to wait until I can have the barbell changed to a shorter one? And here's the last question for you...How long before it stopped being sore? The soreness is bareable, it just feels like it did when I gauged my lower holes, but it's still annoying non-the-less...Any advice is very appreciated :-).

I don't have an industrial, but I have my cartilage pierced. It took me about a week to learn to sleep on the other side, but I was about 50/50 - but as soon as you say you can't sleep on one side that's all you want to do, ya know? After that it was pretty smooth sailing. I was told to use antibacterial bar soap and soap it up in the shower and gently rotate it - the soap will clean it out and help make it slicker to help the ring rotate at first (i guess bar in your case). It also helped with the soreness, because it helped make the hole a little bigger and got the skin used to the ring moving.

I had 2 industrials. i had 1 in each ear. I think it took about a month for me to be able to sleep on the side I got pierced first. Then after that people for some reason kept "accidently" hitting it when they hugged me and then I would get bumps on them that would hurt and puss would come out. The woman told me to get Beyer aspirin and get 1 tablet crush it up and put it in hot water and then get a cu-tip rub the aspirin on it and rub it around your ear. it took about a week and the bump was gone. I had a lot of trouble when my hair tangling in the bar.

Ok, I have a question!! Sorry to take over your post, JJ, but I had my cartilage pierced last November (no ring just a diamond stud) and it doesn't hurt anymore or anything. According to what everyone's told me, it's been long enough that it's healed. So here's my question: FH says not to remove it myself, but to actually go somewhere and have them remove it (remove as in have them switch to a different earring). Do I really have to do that?! I don't want to pay someone to switch my bloody earring for me.

So I love piercings I have four piercings and I also have four on my ear. So that is a total of 6. But I love the industrial one. Let me know how the healing process is. I saw on youtube someone getting it done.

@Brighteyes I have had my cartlidge both of them pierced for years. I took care of it like a reg ear piercing. It's healed for sure by now. I changed mine myself. But if you want you can buy the earrings you like then take it to place and have them change it. It's up to you. Your too funny "you don't to pay someone to change your bloody earring" lol

@Bright Eyes- I would say that you are fine doing it yourself. Just make sure that when you do it that you have the new earring ready to be put in. When you actually do it clean the new stud, take out the old one, then put the new one right in. You should be fine as long as you do it rather quickly because cartilage piercings seem to close quicker than others. The only reason I want to have a professional change mine is because it's a bar that has to be lined up just right. I don't want to end up looking like an elf.

@Trina- Actually the healing process hasn't been to bad. It hurt like a b!tch the day I got it though. Since then it has just been an ache like an other piercing that i've had. The only time that it really hurts is when I get my hair tangled in it or I accidently roll over in the middle of the night and try to sleep on it. I soak it in sea salt once every night to clean it out and I don't touch it at all during the day, other than when i'm untangling my hair from it.

I also have extra strength tylenol on hand, which has really helped in keeping the pain down. I definitely recommend it to anyone thinking about it. Just be prepared to sleep on the opposite side for a while..Which in all honesty has been the hardest part of this whole thing.

I've actually been talking about getting an industrial for a while now. How bad did it hurt? Lol I'm kind of a baby when it comes to pain.

@Bright Eyes, I have had my cartilage pierced for a few years now...I had no problems switching out the earrings after 2 months. You should be fine.

@Bright Eyes- It actually didn't hurt as bad as I thought it would and I have a very low tolerance for pain. I think the part that hurt the most was that he had to hold the back of my ear to push the needle through because of how tough the cartilage is. But it is definitely worth the pain though!
