November Wedding

Paulette, on March 8, 2018 at 2:33 PM Posted in Planning 0 13

Hey everyone. Im in the early stages of planning a wedding for either Oct or Nov. Were in the NJ/NY area so wondering if anyone has done weddings during this time. I really want pretty fall decorations ext. The ceremony would likely be outside. Do you think it would be way to cold first week of Nov for a wedding? Do you think the fall trees would still be beautiful? Anyone do a wedding first weekend of Nov that wouldn't mind giving some input?

Thanks Smiley smile

Hey, New Yorker here. It really depends because we've had days that were in the 80's in October, but I was in my friends wedding this year on November 11th and she had planned for an outdoor ceremony. The temperature ended up dropping to 30 and below so she had to move it inside. New York City in particular is really up in the air with weather during fall/spring.

That being said, in October I'm sure the trees will still be beautiful.

Oct/Nov are usually cold. I wouldn’t consider an outdoor ceremony. If you really want outdoor then I would say September.

I would work on securing your venue first. Fall is becoming the most popular time of year to get married, and you need to book ASAP. Make sure to plan for inclement weather. I'm from PA and we've had snow in October, we've also had hurricanes, and 80 degree days. You never know what you're going to get so make sure to have backup plans.

My wedding is November 16 and is planned to be indoors since most likely it will be too cold. However as you know, NY weather is unpredictable and it could be 75 and sunny. Luckily my venue says I can decide indoors or outdoors the morning of the wedding, so I’m planning for inside and just praying for some sunshine and warmth!

FYI I would definitely have picked September if I could but my whole wedding was planned around my sister/MOH’s deployment. If you definitely want it outside I would say late September/early October would be safer. But that’s also a very popular time to not have a venue booked yet.

I live in NY, my wedding was 10/7/16, and at that time, the leaves had not yet started to turn, so it was definitely more of a summery backdrop than a fall backdrop. We had an outdoor ceremony, and it was sunny and mid-high 70's all day. I got married at The Garrison, in Garrison, NY.

We initially looked at a different venue for the first week of November, and were planning to do an outdoor ceremony there, but then there was a cancellation at our first choice venue, and we preferred October anyway, so we went with that.

October is usually pretty warm in lower NY. We get a lot of Indian Summers. Early September is actually too hot for an outdoor ceremony.

Thanks guys, I know I have the option of indoor or outdoor at this venue. We plan on 2019 or 2020 so we still have time to book luckily. Nov is considered off peak so we would save 20 per person plus still get the beautiful fall look. I would personally love outdoors for the ceremony but either way would be happy and would figure out a way to make it work. The venue room has large windows with beautiful views so that is a plus.

    Thank you again!

Buffalo new York here. Plan for a back up. New York weather is all over the place. You could have a beautiful day or very freezing day.

Totally depends on the year, but our trees in eastern PA tend to change to full fall colors in the third/fourth week of October historically. You can look it up as a 10 year average I believe.
