November Weather - Too Cold??

ellynnh, on July 15, 2017 at 1:41 PM Posted in Planning 0 44

Hey ladies, I need some serious advice. I just got engaged to this amazing dude and we're planning a short engagement, so we're getting married in November. Possibly the 10 or 11. Even the 3 or 4.

We're big outdoor fanatics, so we want an outdoor ceremony, but would it be too cold in New Hampshire to have the reception in a heated tent? Thoughts?

Definitely too cold, even with a heated tent.

I'm unsure of the weather in NH, I'm from Utah and by November we're covered in snow, so I'm not much help.

I do suggest getting on your catering, flowers and such right this minute. 11/11 and 11/12 seem to be popular dates and with it being a matter of 4 or so months you're very slim picking at this point.

I wouldn't do it outside. Maybe find a venue with lots of windows and a great view of the outdoors instead.

Have you looked at the historical average for the beginning of November? I did to make sure it wasn't too cold or rainy which is how we decided the cut off date when looking at venues. Our weekend is the second to last one before it starts being too cold. Our ceremony is outdoors but we opted for an indoor reception room (our venue also offers one outdoors).

    No, too cold.

We're having our reception in a heated tent in New Hampshire this coming Columbus day weekend (10/7) and even that's late in the season up here... it's the last weekend the coordinator even allows outdoor anything

It looks like the average is around 45 degrees.... I know you are all probably right but I want an outdoor reception so badly, haha. Too cold even with outdoor bonfires?

    Too cold.

If you have any elderly family members they will be beyond miserable, extreme temperatures affect your body more as people age. Your younger crowd won't be too pleased either. Your reception is to thank your guests. Plan something that will be comfortable for all.

My wedding is in November. Our reception venue has an outdoor patio with a fireplace and space heaters. While the main event will be indoors, the outdoor space will be available for those who wish to smoke and/or get out of the noise. Maybe look for reception spaces that provide an option like that?

If you don't mind the cold, do it outside. We are also having an outdoor wedding in November but ours will be in Myrtle Beach and whereas it's cold it won't be as cold as NH. But I think a heated tent should suffice. People can just put on a sweater if they're cold. We're having a November wedding because we both hate the heat and sweat like crazy and we don't wanna be uncomfortable during our wedding day. You can always put on layers to keep you warm, but there is only so much you can take off.

Why the rush for November? Can you push the wedding until the spring so you can have it outdoors?

NH is BEAUTIFUL in November, but too cold for your guests. I got married in Vermont in December. Wedding and reception was indoors, but our first look and photos were outdoors. We got killer photos, but our guests didn't suffer because of our wants. This is what I would suggest you do.

Also, why the rush? Your profile says you live in Lincoln, NH. If this is true, I would plan for an October wedding NEXT year (the vendors will likely be booked this October in NH) and do your photos outside with all the beautiful foliage of the White Mountains.

I live in southern Maine (south of Portland) and I would not be excited to attend a wedding outdoors in November. I think it sounds miserable. It snows sometimes so I'd be nervous that it would snow and no one would be comfortable. I bet you can find an awesome venue that can incorporate the wilderness.

Side note- I went to one in Georgia a few years ago and even that was a little chilly.

Not sure where you are in NH, but yes NH in November is definitely to cold. My grandmother lived in VT and by mid October it starts to get very cold. I'd suggest a venue like an indoor butterfly garden or somewhere that brings the outside feel in.

Know your crowd. My friends got married in ski gear at the top of the hill, and everyone skiid down afterward, or rode the lift down. People do all sorts of interesting ceremonies. Just make sure they're warm and well fed at the reception. Good luck and have fun!!

Your guests will be pissed. Can you get married in September or October instead?

Just take a bunch of pictures outside with your husband but have your ceremony and reception inside.

I love weddings, and the only weddings I have not been happy to attend were uncomfortably hot or chilly ones. These events last hours!
