Not knowing what to do

Natalia, on January 7, 2020 at 12:28 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 6

I am at a loss of what to do.

For my dress, I wanted something long in either black or a dark grey color with long bell sleeves, basically a Morticia Addams dress. No white, pink or whatever other typical color. I am also a plus sized woman, so it's already hard coming across something I would like.

Personally, I cannot for the life of me justify spending an incredible amount of money for a dress I will probably only wear once and then store at the back of my closet forever.

My question is.. would it be weird or tacky or whatever other adjective for not great, to wear a bridesmaid dress instead as my wedding dress? I saw some great ones no David's Bridal that are decently priced, colored and even have a great section of sizes!

Now, I'm not looking to be a princess or have some giant ballgown for my wedding. Honestly, I don't even know exactly what I want as it constantly changes. But my wedding is in October, so I probably have to go ahead and hurry to find a dress that I like from someplace. Which, in New Jersey is difficult if you're a plus size gal and not into the white dresses.

Thank you for any input!

My best friend wore a sage green bridesmaid dress for her wedding dress last year and it was beautiful. Wear whatever works best for you, your budget, and your happiness.

I knew I didn’t want something white so I actually originally started my search with evening and bridesmaid dresses. I actually found quite a lot that I liked!

It’s all about what you want to wear, so I don’t think it’s tacky (or whatever other adjective you want to fill in) at all!

You can absolutely wear a bridesmaid dress as your wedding dress. Nothing weird or tacky about it!

A dress is a dress. "Bridesmaid" or "bridal" or "evening" are just labels people put on dresses. It doesn't matter what the dress is labeled as if it makes you feel like how you want to feel (and look!) on your wedding day! Go and rock whatever dress calls to you!

I would suggest taking a look at Etsy for ideas. There are a million to choose from, but it may help you get a better idea of what you do and don't like. A lot of shops will do custom sizing as well, and you can often request different colours.

If you’re having trouble finding a gown with the sleeves you want, you could always go sleeveless then get these Morticia-y bell sleeve arm bands, or something similar!
