Not hearing back from wedding venue

OG Dianna, on January 27, 2016 at 11:17 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 16

How long should I expect to hear back from a wedding venue I'm interested in? It's been almost two weeks. I'm trying to get a tour scheduled... I've emailed a couple of times and called the director (it went to voicemail). I'm just feeling impatient lol. I feel like this venue could be "the one", I just need more info!

Two weeks is way too long IMO. All the venues I contacted got back within 24 hours (excluding weekends).

Even if they do get back to you.. I would be incredibly worried about planning a wedding with them. I know life happens but 2 weeks is a long time to not say anything. I agree with pp. probably best to move on and find someone who wants to work with you.

That'd be too long for me. I crossed a gorgeous venue off our list because the coordinator sucked at communication.

Yeah, I was trying to give them the benefit of the doubt... Like hey, maybe she's really sick or something. Called the main line today and was told she's in a meeting. Sigh, it shouldn't be this difficult.

Is it a seasonal venue that maybe has less staff at this time of year? That's the only valid excuse imo. Otherwise, if its a venue that has a full-time coordinator I'd be worried. You never know, there could be extenuating circumstances, so I'd give it maybe another week and see what the director has to say.

Two weeks is a long time- did you call to follow up?

I had that happen- but it is a restaurant- so we just showed up. I've emailed again for a follow up on a different menu and never heard back. I'm not choosing them for other reasons- but that to me is completely off putting.

@jorocka I have called her and it goes to her voicemail. Her voicemail even emphasizes the importance of each call... Which blows my mind since I have not heard anything back. I am getting so frustrated that I think I will just move on.

@richard that's what I thought too. There should be an assistant if she is really that busy.

I was worried when I hadn't heard back from my caterer in a few weeks, then I found out his father had passed. I felt really bad for being annoyed. Obviously that's not always the case, but like PPs said, someone else at the venue should be able to give you info and book a tour.

@am3131 not a seasonal venue and they are a popular venue in Jacksonville so you would think they would be well-staffed.

Yup, consider it a red flag and move on imo.

Yep- move on- that's annoying. and it always makes me think- as we get closer to this- how much more difficult it would be.

When we didn't hear back from a venue within 4 days they came off the list. If they can not respond to inquiries when they want your business I can't imagine how bad the response time would be after they have your money.

My personal rule is if I don't get any communication within 5 days, they are out. All of my planning is long distance, so if I don't have vendors that can communicate effectively with me, that is unacceptable. If they are busy, the least they can do is send an email that they will get back to me by a certain date. Almost every vendor I have contacted that was unable to help me right away, sent me a quick e-mail to tell me why they are busy and gave me an estimated date they would get back to me by.

One vendor took 3 months to get back to me and said "they do not communicate with future clients until the current busy wedding season is over." Fair enough, I understand you want to focus on your current clients. I told them too bad so sad but I had booked another vendor 3 months ago and had they communicated that tidbit of information, I may have considered waiting.

Communication is key with vendors and if you can't even set up a damn time to go view the venue, how are they going to be when you are two weeks from your wedding trying to nail down details with them?

My thoughts on this always this - if this is how they treat you BEFORE they get your money, how will they behave once they have the signed contract and deposit?

    I would say look elsewhere.
