Not an American wedding service

Mary, on June 16, 2019 at 3:05 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 4

Hey brides-to-be! I am Greek Orthodox so I will be doing a completely different service than the American norm. We will be doing the whole service in Ancient Greek and I won't be walking down the aisle as we meet at the back of the church with the priest beforehand. We will also have crowns to signify our marriage, large candles to light together and of course, wedding rings. I will be having a "koumbara" which is basically the god-parent of our wedding in the church but still have a bunch of bridesmaids. The service is about an hour long and will have people standing up and sitting down continually. We will not be having vows as the church service has them embedded in the prayers. We also will not have a "first kiss" or "you may kiss the bride." It's all very different from the norm we see in America but its exactly what I have wanted since I was younger! Anybody else doing an ethnic service or even your own custom service?

Your Stefana are beautiful! We are doing more minimal stefana. Ours looks more like flower crowns with olive branches and pearls. 😊
