Non-religious wedding ceremony-ish

Tiffany, on March 17, 2014 at 4:41 PM Posted in Planning 0 5

My fiance and I are having a non-traditional wedding: We are getting married, just the two of us in Jamaica, and then a few months later, we are having a wedding reception at home for friends and family, Someone suggested that we have a quick "blessing" at the reception however, my fiance and I are both NOT religious what so ever. If anyone has any offbeat ideas for a mini ceremony, or a "blessing" let me know. I'm open to whatever.

We aren't doing a ceremony, just signing our marriage license and thanking everyone for coming maybe with a non-religious reading (there are a ton, offbeat bride is a great source for these).

Maybe you can do something similar?

You dont have to be religious to say out loud in the presence of friends/witnesses that you commit yourselves to eachother for the rest of your lives, that you promise to love and support eachother through lifes trials, and to be a source of strength for eachother. is that religious? is it too god-oriented? i dont think so

FH and I aren't religious either. We are having a hand binding ceremony and a non traditional reading called "these hands". It's all about love and none about religion. It's perfect (:

It doesn't need to be religious. Our ceremony won't be religious. We are doing a tree planting ceremony to represent out unity but that's it.

If I were you, I wouldn't do a mini anything at your reception- that's what the ceremony was for in Jamaica. Just have a grand entrance and get the party started.

Probably half of my weddings are TOTALLY non-religious -- no "Holy Matrimony" no "in the presence of God" -- just welcome the guests, nice secular readings, exchange of vows & rings, and pronouncement.
