No Vegetarian Options - Vent

Bulbasaur, on November 6, 2017 at 11:52 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 66

A friend of mine is having BBQ for their reception. My fiance and I are vegetarian, but were told that those types of meal options weren't considered but we can bring our own food.

Does this bother anyone else?

It's ridiculous that they don't have an option for you and that they would even suggest that you bring your own food!!

    I wouldn't attend.

25 of our guests requested the vegetarian entrée, including my mother.

If I got invited to a wedding and they said "bring your own food," my ass would NOT be going. That's ridiculous

Yeah, we were pretty much told we could have sides, or bring our own food.

    Poor hosting always bothers me.

I'm sorry their answer for you was to bring your own food.

I'm sure they'd be THRILLED if you told them meat-options weren't considered for your wedding and for them to BYOF.

Me thinks they wouldn't like their shoe being on the other foot.

Didn't you post about going to a shitty wedding last week? I'd start blogging about them at this point lmfao

I wouldn't go. As a caterer, it takes no effort or expense at all to add a few veggie skewers or burgers that the vegetarians can ask for, even if the general group doesn't know that they are there.

If a vegetarian entree, at a sit down dinner, looks more interesting? People will order it, but merely having an alternative isn't a huge deal.

That's ridiculous and so inconsiderate. It doesn't take much of an expense or second to add a veggie pasta, skewers or something.

I personally never thought about this until this post. I'm not aware that any of my guest are vegetarian. However now I might be considering revising my menus just in case someone is

That's rough. I didnt offer a vegetarian entree but no one would eat it. It was also included as an option free of charge if we needed/wanted it. If I had vegetarian friends, i would make sure to have that. That is just good hosting.

That's weird .. I have choices to choose from and we are doing a fish , beef and chicken. But are also offering a veg option on the side for pur veg couples . .my mil looked at venues with us .. and they have zero vegetarians on their side and she's like we don't need that .. but I do have a bunch on my side ..

This has been an issue for us at almost every wedding we have been to. Even when there is a vegetarian option it is a sad portion of vegetables and maybe some rice. We have learned to eat something substantial before we attend weddings.

"Those types of meals" Its not like its something that is impossible to make.

I'm sorry but that seems very tacky and inconsiderate. They are not taking their guest into consideration and to ask you to bring something is even worse. I would not attend.

That's awful! I'd rsvp no saying I'm not about to come to a party where I'm one of the only ones not being served food because they didn't plan well.

We don't have any vegetarians coming that I know of unless someone's plus one is but we plan on having options for the vegetarians as well as gluten free since we know there will be a few of them.

Wow. I cannot believe that a venue would not allow food to be brought in (supplied by a licensed food server) if they could not provide vegan, etc.

I wouldn't waste my time getting dressed up and going to a wedding for a friend who clearly doesn't give a crap about her nearest and dearest.

That's kinda weird. We have no vegetarians on our guest list as of now. We know that for a fact. FH is still insisting on making sure there is a vegetarian option just in case anybody makes a dietary change in the next year. We're doing barbecue and our caterer offers smoked portobellos or veggie burgers as their go-to options. Plus I think only one of the sides is not vegetarian.
