No Train!

SwoleMates2016, on October 5, 2015 at 4:01 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 20

In contrast with the "Train" discussion, I wanted to ask any ladies if they didn't have a train. I'm thinking of chopping my train off. My tailor said it would lay beautifully without it, take off a ton of weight, not have to worry about bustling it, and last but not least my FH things trains are silly. Has anyone gotten a dress with no train or had it altered to not have one?

My dress had a very little train, I would have cut it off if I had purchased a dress with a big one. I'm not a fan. Though my seamstress did make me a bustle for when we danced.

    ETA: pic of bustle

Mine has a very tiny train. Just enough to get a classy look, but not so much that I need to worry about it for dancing. I would post a picture, but my dress is still a work in progress.

@Lara your dress if beautiful, and the little train is perfect. My dress is a much thicker material and I feel like absolutely no train would probably be best.

@Yasmin your dress makes me want to completely cut off the bottom of the entire bottom of my dress! haha, but I don't think FH would like that.

My train is a mile long and it is heavy as hell. It feels like an anchor when it is bustled - but it looks fab when I walk so, yea Smiley smile

My dress had a huge train- and my uncle stepped on my dress during the night and broke the bustle- I wished I had cut it off at that point. If you don't want a train- get rid of it!

I fortunately had a detachable train so I lucked out. If you don't want it...bustle it or get rid of it. Your day...your way Smiley smile

I've decided not to have a train. Mainly because I don't like bustles. Every dress I've seen with on looks unfinished.

I had mine cut off. I hated the bustle my seamstress made and didn't want all the extra fabric anyway. I'm glad I made that decision.

I will not even be trying on any dresses that have a train, too much hassle! Also I'm clumsy and will somehow trip over it myself I'm sure of it!

The train of my dress is my favorite part! But if you want to have it cut off, go for it. Do whatever makes you happy. Smiley smile

My dress has a train, but I'm having it cut off. My first wedding, I had a huge cathedral length train and the was gorgeous... problem was it didn't get bustled up properly before the reception and people were stepping on me all night. Ripped the hell out of the dress. The skirting was falling off of me by the end of the night. It was repairable, and still looks lovely, but I don't want to go through that again... so No Train.

I had a huge train and loved it - but - my friend joined the no train club when she got married. She had a big ballgown with gathered skirt and was adamant that the train be removed. She was relieved to not have to drag it around or worry about bustling it.

At the wedding I was just at on Saturday, the bride's bustle broke when someone stepped on a piece of her dress and she was dragging around her train the entire night! It looked heavy and uncomfortable. Make sure if you don't like trains but still go with one, that your bustle isn't weak. Her's was just a little string over a button.

I loved the look of the train when I bought my dress. But, having a bustle is the way to go for me. I think having it up will be the best route.

Try it a few different ways, walk around in it and see what you want. You have a lot of different segments in a wedding, try to find an option that will make you happy in all of them

I had the train cut off of my dress. I like how my dress looked without it.

At first I wanted to buy a dress without a train to cut the cost and hassle of bustling it, but when I tried on dresses with a train I just loved how it looked. There is no other time in your life when you will have the opportunity to wear a train unless you are royalty! I also think it makes me look taller and slimmer. But if you don't like it, by all means cut it off! I would just consider both sides. I wouldn't put a whole lot of stock in what your FH thinks. You will look different in a wedding dress to him than every other friend, family member, actress, and wedding dress model he has seen, and his emotional reaction will most likely outweigh his fashion critiques.
