No straws at wedding

love_andmarriage, on May 26, 2018 at 9:15 AM Posted in Planning 0 16
So this is probably the tiniest detail, but I want to help preserve the environment by saying no to single-use straws at my wedding. I feel like even though this is a tiny thing, it may be an issue for some people. So to combat it, I was thinking of having a sign so people could be aware of our choice to help the environment & offer paper straws upon request.

Just don't have them.Other than for a couple of medical conditions, no one needs them.

My city just banned them. You could choose to provide re-usable straws as a favor.

They took away straws at my work. Some complaints but over all if you give wooden sticks to stir with people seem happy

Most people wouldn't even notice. For the select few that do, I would just have some available in case they ask the bartender.

We didn't have any at my wedding, I've never used one at a wedding. It's not something that is needed.

I would advise against a sign. There’s no reason to preach to people at your wedding. Just have wooden stirer for drinks.

I don't think you need a sign. I LOVE straws, I'm weird that way, but I also have a reusable straw I carry.

I don’t think you need a sign. I would buy a couple reusable straws and keep them behind the bar in case someone needs one for their kids or something

I would just make sure there aren’t any available. If you’re really worried about complaints try google searching for “pasta straws”. It’s a newer concept and they’re 100% natural and biodegradable so you can have that as an alternative.

I’m providing paper straws. Just like you, I refuse to use plastic straws unless they are the reusable kind

People probably won’t miss them! You could have a little cup of paper straws sitting at the bar if someone is desperate for a straw, you can get like 100+ on Amazon for like $5-10 and they’re cute.

I would not do that (posting a sign).....just tell your vendor not to supply them.

Yes I agree. Just don’t do them. I think it’s better with no straws. It looks fancier and pictures look great with out them. This is an easy one just don’t buy them. I don’t recommend making a sign for it. Most people won’t even say anything about it unless you make it a big deal. So pretend like it’s nothing.

I personally hate paper straws they don't work after sitting in the drink for a couple minutes. Do you think people really need straws? I just wouldn't offer them at all.

Thanks all! I'm going to offer wooden stirrers and no straws without bringing attention. Smiley smile

Personally, I don’t have anything against single-use straws especially if they are made from paper. In fact, I buy paper straws bulk items from this online supplier for my small bar. Perhaps, for some people, deciding on the type of straw to use can be an issue. But paper straws are obviously better than opting for plastic ones because they are 100% biodegradable and therefore, they won’t harm the environment when they decompose. Anyway, I hope you have made the right choice for the wedding! Smiley smile
