No RSVP Cards?

Kristyღ, on January 11, 2015 at 6:26 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 32

I'm thinking, call me crazy, to put on the bottom of my invites "rsvp online @ *wedding website*" to cut costs and headaches when counting RSVP's. From what I have heard, many guests don't even bother to send the RSVP's back to you. So that is stamps, envelopes, ink, and time wasted on my part.

Has anyone ever done this before? Is this even an option or is it really tacky?

It's not so much tacky as that it won't work. You could to that TOO, but not instead.

I wouldn't call it tacky, but I would call it inconvenient. Not everyone uses the internet often (especially older people) and I think people would be just as apt to forget as not. I only had maybe 10 people not send back the RSVPs, so I was out a whole $5.

But, don't you feel as though having an online RSVP makes things simpler and faster for the guests? I don't know what I'm doing LOL

Really, Ericka? That's not a bad turnout! I mean I could do the traditional RSVP's. I'm kind of an internet person so that sort of thing comes easy to me, but I guess you are correct when thinking about Grandma RSVP'ing!

I'm almost 37, and remember living before the internet. For me, the RSVP cards were easy enough. Plus, I'm more likely to send off an RSVP - I'm more likely to forget to log on to do it. Finally, mail is nice - and it's good to have in case something happens to technology (i.e. a program crashing).

We did online RSVP's for our guests that are computer literate and it worked really well. It's a good excuse to get people to look at the website too. Also it gives a comprehensive list so it's super easy to track down who hasn't responded yet, and we've received lots of little notes when people RSVP'd which are nice.

I think it could work for a majority of guests. I would still consider a print/mail RSVP for those that are not computer or internet savvy (perhaps some older guests).

Actually I'm far more likely to get the RSVP in the mail then remember to find your wedding website and RSVP. And I'm on a computer like 80% of the time I am not asleep. You can make it an option, sure, but I'd still do paper RSVPs. Our website had the "RSVP" option live but we didn't set it up. Not a soul used it.

We are doing RSVP cards with our website info but no mail back option.

Most people are computer-literate on our list and we figure any that aren't can call us and RSVP via phone.

We've had people RSVP online and it has worked FANTASTIC! FH's 85 yr old grandma did it so .. I think it's really up to you. We still had an RSVP card in the invite and had the directions on it. It's been great and I've enjoyed not spending the money on extra envelopes and stamps. 50% of our guests are coming from Canada so response stamps would have been ridiculous

To be fair, we're also nixing the STDs (sending invites early) so we're already prepared for a possible "up roar"... good luck!

We're doing that for our invitations, but we're doing a separate RSVP card that says to RSVP on the website, not putting it on our invitation. We're doing traditional RSVP cards for about 15 people (mostly older relatives) who we don't think could figure out to RSVP online. However, FH's grandma already RSVPed online after getting the save the date hahaha

It is good to have online RSVP as an alternative option.

We're going to do both. My mom can barely figure out how to text message. God forbid she learns how to use fb messenger. No no. She has to act like no one can read anything and post private things on my wall. My mother's only 62. FH's parents aren't so Internet savvy either. And his cousin hood rat Gary... I don't think he even owns a phone. Or a computer. He just keeps popping in and out of the woodwork. We'd just like all of our bases covered.

We're probably going to do that, or put the RSVP @ website info on a little rsvp card. I think it will be fine, even my great-grandma (92!) can do the internet thing, sometimes with the help of my uncle lol

If you're tacky, then I guess I am too. lol My sister (just married in July 2014) sent RSVP cards and had the RSVP option on her wedding website. 70% used the wedding website rather than the RSVP cards. So I am planning to ask to RSVP by wedding website and also include my phone number for those who do not have internet access or aren't tech savvy. Hope this helps.

I gave people both options and not a single online RSVP. So far everyone has mailed back the card even though our wedding website is on the invite.

I will be having my guest RSVP via the website and will include my contact number for those who are less tech savy. I know someone who used their wedding website for a 300 guest wedding and it worked well.

I'm having everyone RSVP online. I am also including my phone number for or those who are not tech savvy.
