No guest wedding

Hi guys! We've decided to plan a simple, no nonsense wedding... with only the two of us there. We're thinking of doing a dinner with just close family members the night before then flying off to someplace warm and having a vacation just about us, and get married on one of the days. The only things I want are a simple dress that makes me feel beautiful (doesn't have to be white), good photography and videography, and a predetermined officiant. I've talked to my parents about this and they're all for it, haven't talked to the soon to be inlaws and not sure how they'll take it. I don't want this to seem like an elopement. Just a planned wedding for the two of us. Afterwards I want to send out "We got married" announcements with our wedding photo to all our friends and family. All my ideas are pretty scattered and I need some help to gather them up. I need ideas of how to make this a joyous occasion for everyone and not offend any family or friends too badly! Planning on June 2016!

This actually sounds like a great idea. I have been thinking about doing something along the lines of this.. Just tired of trying to plan this wedding and everybody has some type of input in it... Its time to make it all about me and him, just like what your doing.

Very sweet and romantic ! Let us know how your FILs take the news. But I wouldn't be offended if you did it this way.

I officiate many elopements and small destination weddings.

One bride didn't want the groom to see her in her gown before the ceremony. Because it was just the two of them, I had to fill in as MOB or MOH & help her get dressed!!! Good thing they hired a female officiant!

So, when dress shopping keep in mind being able to get dressed by yourself.

Lauren, if you live in the United States and your "someplace warm" is out of the country, I strongly suggest that you have the ceremony (get married) before you leave. A license and wedding certificate issued in this country will make your life easier in many ways.

I'm thinking about adding someone to a health plan, changing a name, getting a new driver's license and passport, filing for Social Security benefits, etc. all of which require proof of marriage.

These agencies are not used to handling documents issued by foreign countries, especially if they are not in English.

Getting married at home eliminates the application waiting period (if any) while you're on vacation and the need to hire an officiant and witnesses long-distance. Wouldn't you rather have close family members as witnesses?

    Think about it!
