No gift at the shower?

I had my bridal shower today. Everything went alright, until it came time to open my gifts. I opened one by one, personally thanking the person upon opening them. I had my bridal shower today. Everything went alright, until it came time to open my gifts. I opened one by one, personally thanking the person upon opening them. It dawned on me then that I hadn't yet opened a certain someone's gift, so i discreetly looked around to see if maybe my MOH missed it when she was handing me everything. Nope. Turns out this certain someone didn't even bring me a gift, not even a card. My mom mentioned to me that I should get started on my thank you notes ASAP, which is something I planned on doing. But here is my question. Do I send a thank you note to the person who just showed up without a gift? What's the etiquette on this? And I was told that the point of a bridal shower is to shower the bride with gifts. Is it considered taboo to show up without a gift or a card?

Don't be upset because she didn't get you a gift. Let that be the least of your worries. Support is what matters

It's unfortunate they didn't bring a gift, but maybe they couldn't afford one? Or thought they would bring the gift to the wedding? Either way i would send them a thank you for coming.

I don't think you should worry about the gift it's nice for them to come to support you. However, I disagree that you should send a thank you card I think telling them at the shower thank you for coming is sufficient. Otherwise, if for some reason they forgot the gift or didn't have money for one the card might be taken as sarcasm or a "hint".

I understand how you noticed, if you have 10 people at your shower and they are all sitting around you , it's an easy observation. And not even intentional. So I don't think it's odd that you noticed.

I do not think you should send a thank you note, I'm with Rebecca on that one. I think it would be odd to receive a thank you note If I know I did not bring a gift.

Maybe she couldn't afford a gift? It is so weird that people really keep track of who attends without a gift. SMH..

It just gets confusing at times, because when you read about proper etiquette on different sites, you're told different things. My MOH gave me a card, but it was unsigned. And she said she got me a gift card, but she left it at home (the house we all stay at, as she's the gf of FH's brother). Since then she's made no mention of it, so since she technically didn't give me anything, so do I even send her a card?

Also, my MOH had written down the list of who got what, so I could properly write out my thank you notes. Well, yesterday when she was still here, I asked my MOH if I could have the list, and all she told me was that she didn't know where it was, and that she probably threw it away. It annoyed me greatly, as her attitude about it seemed so careless. She was pretty much like "eh whatever.", and then went back to playing video games. I texted her this morning, again asking for the list, and she hasn't said a word to me. I'm just annoyed right now because I need that list to write out the thank you notes, and I don't want to be messaging people on Facebook like "hey, what'd you get me?", you know? I just have a problem with people who say there going to do things, and then they act like its nothing when they fail to follow through.

It seems that I differ on opinion about this than most of the posts. I would NEVER show up to a shower without a gift. At my shower my mom spend easily over $1000 on food and decorations and party favors. People left with prizes and gifts just for coming. It is tacky and rude to show up without a gift. Period. You can’t bring something then don’t go.

Not sure why people are being so judgemental almost blaming you for feeling confused about someone not bringing a gift to a Shower. It's not so much about the monetary value as much as the gesture and the question of why someone would do that. For starters, throwing a shower takes great effort. Someone put together an event with their lwn time and money and i think it's weird someone will show up empty handed, but will have no issue drinking and eating for free. Unless the couple is a millionaire.. i see it as very unconsiderate.
