Guests can read what time the ceremony starts but when you factor in travel time, people wont have an opportunity or desire to stop at a drive thru on the way. A dessert reception is very short so either have it midday or push the ceremony to 7pm or later. If you have your reception during a meal time, you need to serve substantial food. During a non mealtime you can get away with desserts only.

You can feed your guests on a budget, no one said it has to be a fancy dinner, but there should be actual food.
