NO Dinner at the reception and just have a Dessert bar?

Liza, on July 15, 2017 at 5:47 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 102

So we are having an evening wedding. I will be getting married at the same venue as my reception. The wedding starts at 6:30p.m. So I was thinking of just having a dessert bar and our cake of course. I was thinking no dinner. Would that still be okay ? We are having a dance and bar. I figured since its late most people will have ate by then..

If you are having the wedding during meal time - you should be providing a meal.

Nope. That is smack dab in the middle of dinner time. Your guests will be starving.

That's dinnertime. You have to serve a meal. If you moved it to early afternoon this would be ok, but still barely acceptable IMO. People are coming to support your marriage, the least you can do is feed them.

Your reception is at meal time. You need to serve a meal.

Nope. You need to serve dinner.

If you just want desserts, you need to start at a non meal time, like 2 in the afternoon or after 8 pm

If I were attending I would start getting ready around 4:30 or 5 for a 6:30 wedding, so there no way I would eat beforehand.

Um, that's not late. I eat dinner at 7:30 every night.

My favorite part of weddings (minus the ceremony) is the food!

Why do you not want to serve food??

Thanks for the feed back guys.. this helps alot.. We haven't put anything set in stone.. so I can actually move it later.. We are night owls and most of Our guests are drinkers so they are more concerned with bar and beverages.

You can't offer a full bar and no food. People are gonna get drunk super fast

You should still consider food of some sort, unless everyone is 21 and down for a frat party. You can't do drinks only, it's a recipe for disaster.

Agree with pp please consider at least heavy apps if you are hosting a full bar.

You can push it back...maybe 8pm? I'd definitely still have a good selection of hors d'oeuvres, though. You don't want people getting too drunk and only being able to have sweets (that could = vomiting lol). Also, make it very clear on your invitations so people know to eat ahead of time.

That's dinner time. If your wedding starts at 6:30, that means people will be traveling and arriving during a meal period, which means they wouldn't have eaten since lunch. Dessert is not enough.

This is not good hosting. Even if you have a late ceremony (one that starts at 9) you still need actual food.

Why is no food at a wedding even a thought to people. I am so baffled by this.

I always eat before 6 but I know ALOT of people who eat all the way up till 10 pm. I would say provide more than dessert

Uh what time do you think most people eat dinner?? 6:30 is not too late at all. It is literally dinner time.

The number of posts lately from brides who do not want to provide food for their guests is shocking.
