No clinging of glasses at my wedding!!

Moss Wedding, on February 17, 2015 at 9:00 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 34

Ok, so I HATE the clinging of the glasses at a wedding and would like to opt out and have something different. Any suggestions?

I don't know if you can actually stop people from doing this… unless you have someone include it in a welcome speech, which would be kind of awkward.

I was at a wedding and it was announced that if you wanted the bride and groom to kiss, you had to get up and sing a song with the word LOVE in it ... Dunno... I am sure there is something really fun out there that we can do. It's all about fun at my wedding!

OMG! I'm right here with you @Moss Wedding. I hate when guest clink their glass to get the bride and groom to kiss. That's just odd to me.

So, I'm following this thread just for suggestions because daggers might shoot out of my eyes if guest start clinking.

Keep your guests so occupied dancing that they don't have time to cling glasses lol

The reception is where they dance. And have dinner. I've seen bells. Or singing or dancing etc. But people will still do it because it just is "known" but it'll happen less than if you advertised it

I actually thought about this the other day. Good news is we're doing "upscale plastic" (as my planner calls it) for my wedding so no clinging lol

I know that the weddings here in Canada (or at least every single one I have been too) there was no dancing until dinner was finished. Then the bride and groom had their first dance.

At my FBIL wedding the both love hockey so they had a mini hockey net set up and if people scored they would kiss. I'm thinking of making "dice" one said will say bride and groom kiss, kiss your date, kiss the bride, kiss the groom.

I agree with Wendy. I'm of no help thinking up alternatives, but if you don't want to kiss when people clink glasses than don't do it.

This reminds me of a really annoying episode of 4 weddings. Lol. Glad we don't have this cultural norm in my area

You can't control it, nor should you worry about it.

I've never heard of such. But I guess we always have solo cups and they don't cling very well.

On an episode of "Marriage at First Site" the guest would ring a little bell that sat on each table when they wanted the newlyweds to kiss.

I've been to two weddings now where the bride and groom tried different ideas instead of clinking glasses. One was sing a song, and the other was roll the dice and do the action (involved yoga poses). In the end, guests still clinked their glasses and the gimmicks were used a few times in the beginning and then stopped. I say don't worry about coming up with an alternative, it'll just stress you out more when guests clink their glasses.

Are you against the clinking or the kissing?

FH is a pilot so we're having paper on the tables and guests have to make a paper airplane and then hit us with it to make us kiss. We're hoping not too many people will be successful lol.

This is such a concept to me. I had never heard of before except for here on wedding wire. When people clink their glasses around here it means your about to give a toast of some sort.

Easy way to avoid it is no glass.
