New Year's Eve wedding

Colleen, on December 3, 2014 at 8:36 AM Posted in Planning 0 17

Does anyone have any intel on how early you should send out save the dates for a New Year's Eve wedding? Do you think a year in advanced is too early? I'm not sure seeing as it's a holiday! Thanks!

Save the dates could be sent around 10 months since its a holiday, one year in advance would probably get lost in the shuffle of all the holiday mail

I always wanted a New Year's Eve wedding but I was told it would be selfish to expect people to want to spend their holiday celebrating us. Also, vendor costs might be a bit more expensive since it is a prime date. I still like the idea though. I would send out save the dates at the beginning of the year but no later than March.

I love the idea of a New Year's Eve wedding! What a fun way to celebrate a kind of overrated holiday. As long as you keep the champagne flowing of course.

I think a full year might be too much, but you could send it early 2016 (January-February).

I wouldn't send a save the date until you book the venue and vendors (caterer, photographer, and dj for sure). I know for us, it's a big holiday, staff gets paid a holiday rate. I can't say what photographers, djs, florists or other vendors might charge. I would get their quotes and book them asap. You don't want to send a STD to find out holiday costs have pushed things out of budget.

Thank you so much for all your responses! We have booked the venue as it is a prime date!! I'm so excited! I thought it might be selfish but our families love the idea!!! Were so excited!!!! I was thinking no later than March to send them out! I didn't know if a year was too soon! Thank you!

A year I think is too far in advance...but possibly not if people have yearly commitments.

10 months sounds good to me for an NYE wedding, especially if people will be traveling.

I agree- not necessarily selfish especially if you're having a somewhat small/all family wedding. Even close friends I would love to have a plan for New Years. Loved the idea but we wanted an outdoor wedding and we got engaged at a time that 8 months seemed like not enough time to plan a new years wedding, and 20 seemed like too long to wait. Congrats again!

Love this idea so glad you are doing it! I totally wanted a new years eve wedding, but where we live risky the winter weather is to iffy. Normal save the dates are 6-7 months, so I agree with 10 months would be awesome. Definitely do a wedding website and put the website on the STD that way you can add info as you get it to the website and people can check in that way!

We got ours out late, not until July, however we had already informed people via phone/FB that the wedding was going to be in December and that it was going to be December 27 or 31. I was really busy with summer school. We are doing a morning ceremony 11am, and then a lunch reception. FH and I don't really like to party or dance so this way we are having a short reception and then everyone can do what they want for New Years, and we can enjoy our wedding night. My mom is hosting a New Years Eve party at the hotel for our out of town guests.

My BFF got married on New Years Eve a few years ago. She didn't have a lot of people attend BUT she also had her wedding on short notice (planned it in around 3 months) so a lot of family members from OOT weren't able to change or make travel plans at that point. I think what I really liked was she had a day time wedding that was over by 4 or 5 so everyone was able to go home change, and then go out and celebrate New Years that evening.

A year is a good time to send them out. Some people travel for the holidays and this gives them adequate heads up.

PS: I think NYE weddings sound amazing.

Anywhere between 6 to 9 months in advance will do. Your NYE wedding will be extra memorable for sure! Smiley smile

I am having a NYE wedding!! Our families and close friends make up the majority of the guest list. We got engaged at the end of March and as soon as we booked our venue in April, I ordered save the dates and sent them out. Ours is in the afternoon, so I wanted all of our info out before people planned out their summer vacations. This way they could leave a day of PTO for the last day of the year.

We made sure our immediate families could come before we booked the venue. We were prepared for a large amount of potential declines since it was during the day, but we have only had 18 declInes out of 130 so far. I expect probably 100 people to show (we have older guests so depending in health, the number could drop to 90, who knows). We originally thought 60-80 would be coming out of 100 so we adied some more people to our guest list.

Oh, and since the wedding is in the afternoon, we are going out to a club/bar for an after party to ring in the New Year!

    Congrats!!

I would send them in February (after Valentine's Day)

Side note: we wanted to have our wedding on NYE as well. However, the for everything was more than double)

I love the idea of a New Years Eve wedding, I would think 10 months in advance is plenty of notice.
