New Venue?

Danielle, on June 1, 2019 at 10:16 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 4
Last May we signed a contract with our venue, we fell in love. We loved it so much that we switched our date to be able to get married there. Fast forward we get an email from the woman who coordinates weddings to let us know she will be leaving and someone new would be coming on to take her roll.
We went to take a peak a couple weeks ago and the new woman in charge seemed as if we were a bother to come and take some measurements, and kept referring to me by the wrong name.
Fast forward again to yesterday where she told us they changed the menu and we needed to pick something else charging us $20 more per person! She then stated that since our numbers dropped by a few that we would also now have to pay almost $3,000 more because she doesn't want to honor the contract! Where it would be cheaper for us to just invite a few coworkers to fill those spots.
She was over 15 minutes late for our meeting and she was very rude. She kept saying "my hair is so frizzy, it was so beautiful out I just didn't want to come to work" It felt as if she was just trying to upsell us the whole time, as if she was on commission.
I guess to get to the point I have a really bad taste after the meeting and I want to change venues. Has anyone changed 3 1/2 months out? I need some options on what to do, I don't want to sound bratty but I cannot imagine having her running my whole day. 😔

Is there someone above her that you can contact with your concerns? If you have a contract, I wouldn't think those terms are negotiable. They changed the menu? Fine, what are the options that won't cost $20 more per person? You have a few less guests than your minimum? Okay, you'll pay for them whether you fill those spots or not, but they shouldn't cost $3000! And the other things, like being late and telling you she'd rather not be there are things I'd want to know if I were her boss. It seems like it would likely be VERY hard to switch venues with just a couple months to go, and you LOVE this venue. I'd stick with it, but do all you can to rein this new coordinator in -- including going above her head. Good luck! Smiley heart

I would also talk to someone above her. The venue needs to honor the legal contract for the prices. I would ensure the director agrees with you & ask to work with someone else (whether or not that can happen, that should put pressure on them to shape up).

That is definitely concerning. If you have a contract, I dont think they can increase the price per person like that. I would definitely go over her head to upper management. Also start looking for other venues, to see if anything is available. If you find another good venue, then you'll know that is an option. They are in breach of contract, so you should be entitled to your deposit back and not bound to anything.

Just make sure you have these changes (i.e. $20 increase per person) in writing. You never know if you'll end up in small claims court.

Thank you all! We went above her head and they are honoring our initial contract! They did not seem happy with the way she handled things. I'm glad we decided to stay with them, just because we both loved it so much.
