New venue 42 days away

Alexandra, on August 7, 2020 at 11:33 PM Posted in Planning 0 10
Because COVID is making everything more difficult, I had to change my venue because they decided to upcharge us $50 a person because we’re in a tent. My invites went out awhile ago. I don’t want to just do an email or a phone call to tell everyone but I also don’t want to do anything crazy either. Do you think just sending a card with change of plans ! And a new rsvp is okay ?

My immediate reaction was that that sounds perfectly fine!
As soon as I typed it, I thought it might be a little bit confusing to send out a new RSVP card with something that technically isn't an invitation. I think you can do it that way for people you've already received "yes" RSVPs from, but for everyone else, you may want to send only the notification card and include a note asking them to contact you another way if they send their RSVP after you mailed the notes but before you receive them.

...Have you checked your contract? I understand that the pandemic has changed things, but you did have an agreed upon price.

    I'd certainly look it over.

That makes so much sense. I was even thinking just adding an RSVP online on our website but that makes me wonder about the older people and who wouldn’t actually RSVP that way

Now can they up charge $50? Is that stated anywhere in your contract?

No where. Because it’s outdoors in a tent now with bathrooms, tables and chairs and the dance floor apparently that means I pay an extra $50 a person. I’ve brought up my contract many times, but their hands are tied. I’ve contacted all the brides I can find that are also getting married around the same time and they’ve all postponed. I think I’m just paying for their tent myself really.

That’s what it seems like. If you moved the venue would you lose out on a bunch of money?

We actually lucked out so much because I found out someone cancelled their 9/19 wedding and I jumped on that. The location was great because all my vendors won’t charge me traveling fees where it is. Except the Officant apparently she wants another $75 now. So we’re in the process of moving it. It just sucks because we loved our original venue.

Well that’s good! Do you love this venue just as much?
