New rsvp date for postponed wedding

Elizabeth, on May 12, 2020 at 10:52 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 4

My fiance and I made the difficult but safe decision to postpone our June wedding due to COVID-19. Our new date is November 8th, 2020 and we are sending out Change The Date's in the next week or two, depending on when they arrive. We are having our guests RSVP via our wedding website this time. The only problem that's come up is... when do we tell our guests to RSVP? We could ask them to RSVP by the equivalent date to our previous one (which would be October 4th) but I'm afraid that's too far ahead since we are sending the Change The Date's this month. I have no idea what to do. Smiley sad

My fiancé and I are in the military and only have time off in the summer. Needless to say, our date went from July this year to July next year. So, I am also in the process of updating the wedding website with the new date. However, since it is so far out, we're sending out the e-invitations this week, but also the site has a "reminder option". You can send another email later so they can RSVP. Hope this helps.

Hi Elizabeth! I think one month beforehand (Oct 4th) is a good date! You don't want to make the deadline too early, because you want the responses to be as accurate as possible.

You may need to send a reminder email after your deadline or follow up individually with a lot of guests - but most couples have to do that even under non-pandemic circumstances! Smiley laugh

I would do the October 4th date! People normally have to follow-up anyways, and people with lots of out-of-town guests send invites earlier with a longer invite-RSVP date gap and no one finds that weird. I think that'll be fine!
