Nervous about venue end time

Viviana, on July 6, 2021 at 4:06 PM Posted in Planning 0 13

My FH and I chose our venue - we absolutely love it! It's everything I imagined/wanted in a venue. It goes perfectly with our rustic theme, they allow us to bring in outside alcohol, allow us to bring live entertainment and has the space for both our ceremony and reception. We had seen other venues before/after we saw our chosen one, and they never felt right and I couldn't envision myself getting married there - so we booked it.

The only con that I have with this venue, is that it ends at 10pm. My FH and I don't mind the 10pm end time - we knew about it prior to signing the contract. Our plan is to have an after party with our closest friends/family members/whoever is up for it (I know the older crowd will want to go home lol). So, again, we are totally fine with it, but we've already gotten faces and comments made about it ending "too early".

How do I go about not feeling bad about the early end time? And how do I approach people that are making negative comments/gestures? I don't want their negative comments to get to me and then me regret the venue! ugh!

Honestly, I just wouldn't tell people the end time. I've never been told the end time of a wedding, just the start time. I typically assume it ends somewhere between 10-11 if they start in the evening, but end times don't usually appear on invitations.

If anyone thinks 10 pm is too early, they can go party on their own time and dime. Don't feel bad. These people are being rude and entitled

I agree with Willow above. Just tell them that's the time stated in your contract and it is what it is. 10pm is a perfectly respectable end time for a reception.

You can have somewhere nearby you suggest to people for an after party if there are bars around.

I don’t think 10pm is a late end time. But then again maybe that’s because that’s when I am ending my reception. Our venue is close to downtown and anyone who wants to continue partying can come with the rest of the group that will be heading downtown afterwards

Same! Our venue is in downtown LA so there will be lots of options to continue the celebration. Glad to hear I'm not the only one with a 10 pm end time!

I don't think 10pm is too late at all... That's when mine is ending too! You should not feel bad about it at all.... I would just ignore people's rude comments, that's ridiculous of them. Especially since you have an afterparty planned (I don't, so you're going above and beyond as far as I'm concerned 😁), so these people have nothing at all to complain about!!

I second this...Our venue is also very strict about us not spending a minute longer than the number of hours we reserved. If people want to b**h, they can pay for and throw their own party. This ticks me off so much when people do this - it's not your party and you aren't paying for it - BACK OFF...lol sorry for my small rant...but seriously, screw those people

Most of the venues I looked into had a 10 or 11 pm end time (I'm in Southern California, a lot of it has to do with noise ordinances at night), so it's really not that rare. We ended up falling in love with one that we have to be out of by 11, and our guests will just have to continue the party elsewhere if they want to.

Hi Josie! I'm in Southern California too - having my wedding in Downtown LA and yes, we have to be out of there by 10 because of noise ordinance! Thank you for making me feel better!
