Need your honest opinion- Would you sit on a picnic blanket?

I am thinking of having some picnic blankets on the grass, and maybe a few folding chairs. Given that our guests will be coming in semi-formal attire, do you think they would use them at all? It's either that or no seating outside.

@Joyce Ohh so your cocktail hour is both indoors and outdoors? If they get tired during cocktail hour they can just go inside & sit? If the blankets are only for people who are outside playing the games then it's fine because they probably won't want to sit anyway.

@Jessica that's right the appetizer station will be inside but hors doeuvres will be passed inside and outside. Maybe we will just have a few foldable lawn chairs outside given that no one would sit on the picnic blankets.

No I definitely wouldn't sit on the ground. But as others have said you don't really need seating in this situation. I had standing cocktail tables at my cocktail hour (with a few chairs for our older guests).

I definitely wouldn't sit on the ground in semi-formal wear. If it were a casual party, hellz yes - sounds like fun. The other thing to think about is whether you've got any older or even elderly people coming who may not be able to get up and down easily. You should definitely supply some seating for at least those folks or anyone else who might want to take a load off while enjoying the party.

No I wouldn't sit on the ground. And Celia for the win on this one. I don't have a clue who came up with the pinterest ideas of hay bales (I don't care how many blankets you put on them, they are uncomfortable, very low, and have no back. And it is common for people to be allergic to it. Blankets would be worse.

I'm so with you on this one @Celia.

No.....if you are having your wedding/reception at a mansion, the picnic theme doesn't seem to match really. I can see cocktail tables and a few scattered chairs, but ground sitting is not going to be used.

I'm with Celia, but for a day- after brunch picnic (in jeans), I totally would! Buy some orange juice, a few pitchers of iced coffee, and a pastry or bagel tray from the grocery store, and some balloons/ bubbles for the kids!

I would not, but it's a cute idea. Can you rent picnic tables/benches?

Thanks everyone, I think it's loud and clear that I should nix the blanket idea! We will try to get some lawn chairs instead.

    How was your wedding???

I would be OK with sitting on a blanket of some sort, even in semi formal attire, but my main worry would be for those with mobility issues, those with back issues and those who would rather sit in a chair or with some form of seating with back support. Also, I have a no shoe policy on blankets and find it gross when people wear their shoes on them, so unless everyone shared that value, I would much rather stand or have a chair. That stated, how was the wedding and congrats!
