Need reception ideas

Stephanie, on January 8, 2020 at 5:17 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 5

We are having a small ceremony at a venue with just immediate family then a larger reception for more at our home. Although it's a nice sit down dinner, it really is more of a party than a reception. I'm trying to come up with ways to make the guests who weren't at the ceremony feel more like a part of our special day. This is our 2nd marriage, I'm 48 and he's 58, so there aren't going to be single guests to do the bouquet and garter toss (that and we aren't going to have a DJ). We will have a champagne toast but am trying to come up with more ways to make it more special than just a party. Any ideas?

That's a tough one! All I can think of right now is to be sure you take a group picture if you can. If there's a lot of people it doesn't have to a very formal one, but it would let them know that you value everyone who came.

Maybe a video of the ceremony? Or a slideshow? Maybe a speech or two?

Are you planning on wearing your wedding dress? My parents did that for the church my dad was on staff with since the congregation wanted to support them. Something cool for them to look back on and my mom got to wear her dress again!

Second marriage and I’m 60 for me. We’re doing a small wedding cake to cut. For you I might suggest a true racing line-as in greet each person. Take photos with each. If you’re using a photographer they can sometime print them that night for them to take. Maybe in a fun frame?

You can definitely still keep the wedding vibe going by continuing other typical reception traditions (we didn't do the garter/bouquet toss either!) - of course, if you're still in your wedding dress that's the first major clue! lol Still consider other things such as toasts from bridesmaid/best man (or parents), cake cutting, a first dance - and father/bride mother/groom dances (or does no DJ mean no dancing?), and a grand exit. Another idea that could be fun is in the decorations! Frame up some of your engagement pictures or other photos of the two of you! You can also add pictures of family members weddings. We did this at our weddings and included photos from our parents weddings, grandparents, and our aunt's wedding who is a huge role model in my life. Everyone LOVED looking at all the pictures Smiley smile
