Ok question... I just picked up my dress Wednesday, and the dress Originally came with these thick straps that I wanted taken off. Ok question... I just picked up my dress Wednesday, and the dress Originally came with these thick straps that I wanted taken off. My seamstress (who Is also extended family) insisted that they stay and that I would want them. So she attached the front of the straps. So. My question is. When I look at these photos from Wednesday when I picked it up, I don’t feel the same way about the dress as I do when I look at the photos from 6 ml that ago when I tucked the straps in and basically make it strapless.. what do you guys think? Two issues. My wedding is in two weeks, so I literally would alter the strap section. Myself (I have sewn my whole like, it would t be an outrageous thing for me to mildly alter straps). The second issue is, my seamstress is my sister’s MIL, and is attending the wedding, and I don’t want to offend her by changing the dress, since she did a lot of the work on her own time as a favor to me!! But I really do think I like it strapless better.. ugh!! Options please?? Am I just overthinking this because my date is so close??

I like it both ways but love the look of it strapless! I agree with PPs that it’s your day & you should feel amazing in your dress! I say if you like it better strapless, go strapless!

I was going to say the exact same thing! There is a very obvious difference in the way you are holding yourself in the strap vs. strapless pictures. I think the dress looks great strapless and if there is enough boning in the dress like you said then you should be golden. Maybe take it to another seamstress just to get a second opinion? But if you really want it strapless I would just say to your family member that you appreciate all her hard work but it would make you the happiest to wear your gown strapless. And if she is mad by that then screw her it’s your wedding dress and you will look at the photos for the rest of your life!

Thank you all for your ideas and opinions!! I think my MOH and I are going to try to find a way to tuck the straps in without making it too lumpy, that way I can just pull them out if I needed/want to! Gotta play with it a bit, but the more I look at the photos, the more I love it strapless. It totally changes the dress for me, and that’s how I fell in love with it in the first place!

Yes!! You look so much happier in the pictures of you wearing the dress strapless! It sounds like a good idea.

It looks beautiful either way! Do whichever option makes you happiest! Your Sister’s MIL will understand in the long run that this is your wedding day so it’s about what makes you feel happy and beautiful.

And if your Sister’s MIL doesn’t, let it be her problem, not yours.

Took my dress too my FILs house today, because my FMIL requested I bring it to try on her pearls with it (i’ll Be wearing them the day of), and we played around with the straps a lot and I think we figured it out!! Just angled the straps so they are a more off the shoulder look, and now I’m happy with them! The primary thing I wanted was an open, sexy but classy look, and I think that the off the shoulder straps accomplish that without having to do too many additional alterations!!

It's a different dress all together without the straps to me. I honestly like it strapless alot and I don't love it with the straps. I would just get the straps taken off by someone else and thank her for all that she did. Don't worry about her feelings over your own. You're only getting married once. Congrats too btw!!!

I think they are both pretty but it looks like you’re TOTALLY OWNING that gown when it’s strapless. You can tell it’s what you want so go for it!!

I think the strapless looks way better. I understand that her feelings may be hurt, but you should feel great about your gown and it seems like strapless will achieve that.

I would contact her and let her know that after careful thought, you are certain that you want the dress to be strapless. Maybe ask if she would be willing to do it and if not, then you are happy to take it on. Smiley smile

I noticed in one photo that you have tan lines. I am adding straps to my dress to hide part of my lines. The main point YOU need to realize is....this is YOUR day! It should be happy, and you need to be comfortable. Do NOT worry about others. YOU will be looking back at your day forever. Make it how YOU want it!!!

UnFortunately my tan lines are from a sports bra and they’re going to show no matter what due to the cut of that back of the dress. I’ve even been tanning to try and blend the lines a little bit it’s still obvious. Oh well! At this point there’s no use getting bent about it! 😂🤷🏻‍♀️

I like the strapless better which is funny cause I’m adding straps to my strapless dress. But whatever you like best, I’m sure if you explain it to her she’s understsnd.
