Need opinions on my dress, two weeks out!

Stephanie, on August 9, 2019 at 10:09 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 47
Ok question... I just picked up my dress Wednesday, and the dress Originally came with these thick straps that I wanted taken off. My seamstress (who Is also extended family) insisted that they stay and that I would want them. So she attached the front of the straps. So. My question is. When I look at these photos from Wednesday when I picked it up, I don’t feel the same way about the dress as I do when I look at the photos from 6 ml that ago when I tucked the straps in and basically make it strapless.. what do you guys think? Two issues. My wedding is in two weeks, so I literally would alter the strap section. Myself (I have sewn my whole like, it would t be an outrageous thing for me to mildly alter straps). The second issue is, my seamstress is my sister’s MIL, and is attending the wedding, and I don’t want to offend her by changing the dress, since she did a lot of the work on her own time as a favor to me!! But I really do think I like it strapless better.. ugh!! Options please?? Am I just overthinking this because my date is so close??

I think it looks pretty both ways, but girl, it is YOUR dress. If you want a strapless dress, you should wear the strapless dress! Just tell her you thought about it and decided on what you liked best. You don't want to look back and wish you did what you seem to have your heart set on.

She may not want to remove the straps do to them being the main support of the dress.. some dresses are not made to be strapless and if you try take the straps away you lose the support of keeping it up over your boobs.. so basically you will end up constantly pulling it up all day/evening... strapless dresses are made with more support around the breast/back/chest area to keep it in place. Now I am just assuming this is why she did not want to do it. Hope this helps.

That's a good point..I didn't think of that. Could you ask her again about it and just say you really think you'd like it better with no straps and see if it is a possibility?

I would’ve thought that too, except this dress has a TON of boning in the bodice and has no problems staying up without the straps attached... I’ve tried it both ways otherwise I wouldn’t even be considering trying it strapless..

I would ask.. she could build in a bra piece that may offer support to be strapless..

I think it is prettier with the straps. But it’s your dress and it’s your decision.

It is beautiful either way. But this is YOUR dress. If you want it strapless, than she should respect your wish.

It's your dress. You should be free to do what you want with it. She needs to respect your wishes because it is your dress and she did not honor your request in the beginning when you asked them to be taken off. I feel she shouldn't have felt lime she knew what you would want. I personally like it better strapless.

Is it absolutely necessary to remove them or can you wear the dress like you're wearing it now? It doesnt loom bad in the photos. I think you could get away with tucking them in. If you need them toward the end of the night, you'd have them as an option?

I don’t even like strapless but I definitely like the strapless version of your dress better. Go for it!

First thing I noticed was the change in your facial expression in the pictures with it strapless, you’re much happier! I would follow your heart on this one! You’ll look back on the pictures and say “ I should have” and that’s not what you want. I wouldn’t worry about hurt feelings, it’s your day!!

Both are pretty, but I’m with you on strapless! I feel like your extended family member should have respected your wishes even though she believed you would love the sleeves. Is there a way to make them detachable?

It's your day, do what makes you feel the best. You don't want to look back on photos and regret not taking the straps off if that is really what you wanted. Your dress look beautiful either way.
