Need ideas for something Borrowed and something Blue

Paola, on May 28, 2015 at 10:53 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12

My theme colors are burnt orange, dark red and gold, the only thing I can think of for my something blue is the underwear and or garter and something borrowed is a hard one...

I was thinking of jewelry or a veil... but what are the chances of having a friend that has a veil that goes with my dress... Help!

Does a friend have a pearl necklace that you could borrow? For blue.. what about just sewing a single blue thread into something you are wearing?

Either can be anything really. For something old maybe a vintage car, jewelry from a grandmother or a family heirloom, perfume from the day you first met you FH, maybe something your parents used in their wedding (i.e. cake toppers), old photos incorporated into the bouquet. And something blue — garter, shoes, jewelry, rhinestones on the soles of your shoes, a piece of a blue shirt sewn into the lining of your dress, a blue cocktail, nail (or toenail) polish.

By tradition, something old is a token to tie the bride to her family and her past, and something blue represents faithfulness, loyalty, and purity. So maybe even something from your own childhood, like a bracelet or something you used to wear as a kid.

ETA — nice dress, by the way!

You could do a "something blue" anklet.

I was going to buy a really pretty one off of Novica, but my grandma gifted me sapphire earrings she had had forever for my "something blue" instead.

There are a bunch more in a variety of blue, but this is the one I liked!

I just ordered a blue ribbon ankle bracelet off Etsy. It has a cute little charm that says "I Do" Smiley smile I am going to ask my daughter for something "borrowed" and my mom for something "old". Not sure what I will get though so could also use ideas!

I thought the 4 items had to be ON the bride?

I'm going to take one of FH's old blue shirts and cut a heart out and stitch it into the inside of my dress. So it will be there, but not visible.

My engagement ring has 4 sapphires on either side of the diamond, so that worked out. Jewelry is a good choice...

I love all these ideas! Mine was easy since the color was Navy anyway. My blue was in my bouquet I guess. But I would have liked to do this: https://www.etsy.com/listing/****/wedding-dress-label-ivory-or-white?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=embroider wedding dress&ref=sc_gallery_3&plkey=59592ac****be51459a7f89b609ef:****

Embroider the blue name/date etc into the bottom part of the inside of your dress. "Mrs SO and SO - Date" Or something!

Love the anklet ideas, and I love when the brides wear blue shoes these days too! OR paint on the bottom of your shoes, the soles blue and "I" on one, "Do" on the other, that's cool too and won't interfere with your colors.

For borrowed, my mom loaned me her pearl necklace and I love the pic the photog got of her putting it on me too! New was dress, ring, etc. My old was my shoes, as these goregous heels I got for my friend's wedding who wanted 'beige' shoes went well!

My blue were sapphire earrings from my mom. And my colors were blue and grey, so I also had blue flowers. And one of my bridesmaids also gave me those "I do" rhinestone stickers for my shoes and they were blue. My something borrowed was a ring from my grandma, it was actually her wedding band when she first married my grandpa. The something borrowed is supposed to be from a happily married person, so having the ring from their long marriage was very meaningful to me. Maybe someone in your family or a close friend has some jewelry you can borrow, I think that would be the easiest to borrow. But a veil could also work. A friend of mine is borrowing my veil for her wedding, our dresses are very different, but the simple veil works well with both.

Hi Kelli you are right all the items are supposed to be ON the bride during the ceremony, but I just found out yesterday that there is a 5th item check it out!

I have 2 things blue. My garter and a piece of my dad's shirt that's going to be sewn into my dress. My friend said she has something that I can borrow but she won't tell me, she says it's a surprise. I'm dying to know what it is!

You're right, they are supposed to be used as charms and on the bride. But you can always put a twist on tradition. Smiley winking

Thank you for all the ideas ladies, I will ask my FH grandmother something to borrow, they completed 65 years or marriage last April, and are supper adorable together... For something blue, I think I am going to use a gold ring with a aquamarine stone that I got on my first birthday, I can use in my pinky finger Smiley smile
