Need help with wedding favors please!

Jenny, on March 31, 2020 at 10:55 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 7

HI!

I'm kind of late in this wedding planning, because we are getting married late September and only signed the contract for the venue 1 month ago. I was so surprised there were a lot of brides who were already set for September 2021!

Because of the current situation, there is not much I can do- tastings and fittings are all delayed.

So in the meantime, I decided to work on diy projects and gather some stuff for wedding favors.

I'm having a small wedding for around 50-60 people. It's an outdoor wedding and mood for the wedding is enchanted romantic garden. I'm using a lot of handmade paper for invites, menus and placecards.

I definitely want to give out favors, since its a small wedding and everyone is very close to us. I'm already including a nice throw that I designed, just in case it get's chilly. But I want to include more! I was thinking of including a flower crown or corsage the guests could wear - but I saw a post that guests usually shouldn't have flowers unless it's the bridal party or family members? Is there a reason for this?

I know a lot of people suggest edibles, but I'm not the greatest cook/baker. And I don't want to give out anything that can just be bought. Working as a designer, I'm more of a crafty person and I think I should make or include something that I'm good at! Anyone have any recommendations?

I would also love if anyone has ideas how to wrap this up! I really want the packaging to be unique too. I've been looking at custom shopping bags and nothing stands out to me yet. I'm also considering putting everything into a wicker basket for each person.. Do you think that will be to much?

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

This is totally a personal decision. What kinds of things are unique to you?

For us we are throwing around the idea of using our hive to supply fresh honey to our guests as a favor, or renting a Nitrogen Ice Cream cart for the show/experience for our guests (we love ice cream). We've thought about making items but I'm incorporating lots of homemade elements into our wedding so I don't know how much DIY time I have for my guests ( especially now being a healthcare worker with crazy hours).

It also comes down to what your guests will actually like too. Some people do mini take home cakes ( we've considered) as a gift, a tree to plant, or a book shelf stopper. With this COVID19 I've seen funny favors like TP or germX. Our cousin makes candles on the side so her favor was silly named wedding scented candles for everyone that she made.

I don't know what kind of designer you are but you could make custom shawls or blankets for your guests?

I am also DIYing everything in my wedding. So far I’ve finished the bouquets, flower crowns, boutonnières, jewelry, and I’m working on the invitations. I am giving my guests hotel welcome bags since it is a destination wedding, and I looked forever online for a way to make the bags personal. I finally settled on decoupaged canvas bags. Since I live on a farm, I am using every chicken and sunflower napkin I can find, and I am using modpodge on both sides of the bag. Every bag is different, and it’s fun to do. I am also stressing about getting them all done though, since I am a nurse and unexpectedly working a lot of extra hours. Thankfully my daughter is crafty as well and has offered to help. If you have your own hive, I think honey is absolutely a perfect gift! I can’t wait to hear what you decide. Good luck!

I actually LOVE the idea of giving guests a flower they can wear, I think it's super cute. I've never heard a rule that says guests can't wear flowers, maybe that's a stylistic choice some couples make to make the wedding party and family stand out? Could you make flowers from origami? Could you design a custom label for each favor box, like a sticker or a tag, to show off your design skills?

Can we see what the throw looks like?

I just made my wedding favors Smiley heart

Mine is actually essential oil bug spay.

It's fun to make with my future MIL, and it smells good.

Most importantly, it makes sure my guests won't turned into bug's dinner.

We’re a September 2021 wedding and are kind of doing the same theme you are planning! ☺️ I’ve found online some small succulent plants that cost $1.00 each and can be bought in bulk. Might do like a mossy fairy garden set up on a table with the plants and people can each grab one. That’s one idea I have for gifts for our guest. Other idea is maybe either cute packets of coffee with our initials or small jars of honey.

The Icecream cart seems like such a cute idea!

I'm a textile designer, so I sent out my designs this week to a factory that can make the blankets!

I'll share the throws when I get some samples back! I'm expecting them to come back by the end of this month. I just sent out my designs this week. I think I will go with giving everybody a flowerSmiley smile I just need to explore some options that won't cost me too much!
