Need help with ceremony! Poems or quotes please.

VeganWifey, on August 13, 2016 at 4:53 AM Posted in Planning 0 3

We are having a friend (who has done 7 weddings) as our officiant. So he sent us what he plans on saying during our ceremony and asked for our honest opinion.

I LOVE most of it. But am not fond of the Dr Seuss poem, which seems extremely long.

He previously asked me for a poem I liked and I didn't put much thought into it.

But now I feel like I need to find something and get back to him.

Any suggestions on quotes, poems or other ideas?!?!

We are not religious.

Thank you in advance. I am panicking!! And 20ish days away from our wedding!

Uh-uh...we could give you all kinds of quotes, but this one should come from your heart. I'm not a fan of Dr. Seuss quotes at weddings, but if couples feel moved by them, so be it (I'm a firm believer in the fact that the ceremony -- including the gown, the BMs dresses, the men's attire, the music, the officiant, and the text are ALL about the couple. That's their moment to shine, and no judgment is appropriate. The reception? That's a different story).

Google. Google "love poetry". "romantic poetry" or "wedding poetry". There are so many amazing poets -- both American and European -- who have put words to what is in your heart.

Oh...here's a place to start (read slowly and take it in -- poetry and verse requires a different mindset than you'd use while reading a book):

Take all or pieces, or keep searching. Remember, and this is so important, you need an experienced public speaker/officiant to pull off this type of verbiage. Uncle Arthur or Cousin Jason can't do poetry justice -- in fact, it will probably fall flat. Only a gifted orator can infuse these words with the life that's necessary to touch your hearts and the hearts of your guests.
