Need Help w/ Registry Prices - Amazon vs. Macy's?!?!

thermo, on October 24, 2016 at 6:53 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 4

Hi, my fiance and I are trying to split our registries between 2 stores (Amazon.com and Macy's) but we're totally confused what to do as far as price comparison shopping. So far, we're only registering an item at 1 location (so no duplicates between stores) but that poses a problem because the price constantly changes (particularly at Macy's during their sales). For example, a Dyson vacuum is $400 on Amazon, but $400 on Macy's too. Naturally we listed it on Macy's given that Macy's allows (older) relatives a more traditional option to gift-buying. But today the Macy's weekend sale is over and the price is back to $600, along with several high price items we selected!!

I do want my guests to have an easy time shopping for us and get the best deal, but I also want to have the option for them to purchase gifts from a classic brick-and-mortar wedding -type department store. What is the normal thing to do here?? Thanks!!!

I would just say leave it on that registry. I feel like that is an item someone wants to go into the store to buy rather than ordering it online. If it is something people like to go and pick up and touch register for it at Macy's, if it is regular everyday stuff, register for it on Amazon. There will be sales on both sites year round so unless there is a significant price difference on the regular non sale pricing I wouldn't sweat it.

Macy's always runs sales, service it will probably go back on sale again. Plus, if someone is concerned, they can do the research themselves, buy it from wherever they want and then just mark it as purchased on your registry.

I would leave it- especially with holiday sale coming up around the corner- prices are likely to change again

I hear you on this because we picked Amazon and bed bath and beyond. I was tempted to put items on both lists. First, Bed Bath and Beyond has coupons but I don't know if everyone will realize that. I put a kitchen aid mixer on my bed bath and beyond list. It should be cheaper with coupons but if coupons are not used. Amazon is cheaper.
