Need Help Stereotyping

Denise, on July 26, 2019 at 9:51 AM Posted in Planning 0 3

So I'm writing a toast to my FH to read at the reception since he's shy we're doing it a bit topsy turvy. So I'm writing something along the lines of "What I meant when I said 'I Do' " kind of thing.

I'm looking for things like:

When I said "In sickness & Health" I meant I'll be there when you catch the man flu

This is my speech and I plan on cutting a few things but I also want to add a little humor this way. So I'm asking for a little help with the typical Man "Stereotype"

"I would like to clarify my half of our vows. I promised to keep you by my side, in good times or bad, hopefully there’s more good times than bad, for richer or poorer, hopefully richer, in sickness in health, by which I meant that I’ll listen to you whine when you catch the man flu. I vowed to stay true to you and honor you and love you for the rest of my days, which really meant that now you’re stuck. So, on that note, baby I toast the long, happy, love filled life that lies ahead. What I didn’t verbally say, but instead what I was implying is that I promise to encourage, support and believe in you, I promise to speak to you and about you with kindness and compassion, I promise to love myself as much as I love you and to never expect you to complete me, I promise to respect your boundaries, I promise to never intentionally hurt you, I promise to listen with an open mind and an open heart, I promise to allow you to be your best self and to step back if I interfere with your well-being, I promise to be a safe space for your secrets and vulnerabilities, I promise to forgive you for who you are and to forgive myself for my flaws, I promise to honor your dreams and fears and to understand who you are, right in this moment, I promise to have patience through the dark times, I promise to make time for you, I promise to never keep score, I promise to choose love. Cheers!"

OMG I love this!! I'm sure it will be hit at your wedding!!

Have you tried googling stereotypes about Men and see which ones apply to you FH?

Hey Denise! I think your toast is really good! I like the man flu for sure. You could add in something about a man cave when you're talking about giving him space. When you are talking about not keeping score you could add in something about sports. Hope this helps! Good luck!
