Need Help Finding Rustic Philadelphia Suburb Venue on a Budget

Laura, on January 1, 2014 at 1:26 PM Posted in Planning 2 16

Hello Readers! I'm recently engaged and looking to have a rustic feel wedding in September of 2015. I really love a mix of stone and wood in a venue. Please no ballrooms, country clubs, or hotels - it's just not our style.

Our entire family (and guests) are from the Philadelphia area, so we are looking for a venue (both ceremony & reception) in the immediate area. I've looked high and low, but am seeking personal experiences or unique places to consider in the area.

I did attend college in Lancaster County, and we have looked at Pheasant Run Farm B&B that we both agree that we like. However, we would still like to consider the Philadelphia area due to our guests traveling. Also to consider, Philadelphia comes with a price tag.

Our budget is maximum $15,000 - and we're looking to have approximately 80 guests. The venues that I somewhat like and would like to see have guest minimums, which is a shame because we'd really love to have it on a Saturday evening.

Have you looked at the Barn on Bridge in Collegeville? I'm not a Philly bride but I know one of our brides is getting married there (this month!) and it looks like a pretty cool place.

Also, if you're having a hard time to find a place will a low Saturday minimum, you may consider to move your wedding back a month or so (October/November/etc) so that it falls in the off-season. Vendors should be more flexible then.

    Good luck and happy planing!

Http://www.riverbendeec.org/eventplanning/barnrentals.html this place is cool and inexpensive. I think you are limited to 50 guests though. Outside of this place, I don't know anything barn/ rustic like that would be budget friendly. You might check out more in Lancaster. The drive isn't to bad.

I'm actually getting married in Lancaster, and my fiance's family is from Philly. No one has complained about the drive (yet) but here are two somewhat closer options:

    http://www.faunbrook.com/ - Faunbrook B&B in West Chester

My cousin had her wedding here. I don't know about the price, but it did have a kind of rustic feel. Normandy Farms in Blue Bell.

@Donna I was going to say Normandy Farms too! It's beautiful there. Also, there is a place called Pomme in Radnor that we were really impressed with. It's a beautiful location and they have a small pond with swans. They have a little lawn area and told us many people bring lawn games for the cocktail hour. Yay for another Philly area bride!

Check out the Audubon center in Audubon, PA. It's right off 422 near KOP

Thank all of you! I am familiar with all of these venues, I guess it's just a matter of picking one Smiley smile Yes, I am a Millersville Alum - that's how I discovered Pheasant Run in Lancaster. And the Audubon Center is actually less than one mile from my house, so I'm very familiar with the area - same with the Barn on Bridge not too far away in Collegeville.

Right now I'm waiting to hear back from the Tyler Arboretum, but not too sure where we're going to end up!

This site has a great database of rustic venues. I found my barn wedding location on here. You have to really weed them out to find what fits your style and budget. Good luck!

Guessing Harrisburg to too far west? I have an amazing lodge in the woods booked for my wedding. It seats up to 180 and is only $900 to rent and is BYOB! We are making magic happen for "peanuts"

I’m sure or at least hope you are all settled & found a great place to have your wedding but for others who find this post by means of searching for a similar type of venue, I have to highly recommend the Aldie Mansion in Doylestown. It is absolutely amazing. Besides being a beautiful venue with great character, the other benefit is that the catering is done there by Jeffery Miller who we are realizing is amazing. Our planner that they provide has been great and we recently went to the food tasting and were blown away. They make everything homemade which is not often the case believe it or not. I can go on and on but just do yourself a favor and check it out. As I am sure you can tell, we are very excited about finding it and just want to pass it on the way it was passed on to us.

Hey there! I thought I’d chime in here in case any other brides are still looking to this forum for help. As far as venues go, the first thing I knew when I started my search was that I did NOT want a ballroom because of the ugly carpet and decor, and country clubs and hotels were not unique enough for me. My fiancé and I had gone to a wedding at the Tyler Arboretum in Chester County a couple of years ago and loved the feel of the spaces and the food, so that was a big factor in deciding to look into their caterer, Jeffrey A Miller (JAM). We ended up choosing one of JAM’s other venues, the Anthony Wayne House, for our upcoming October wedding. JAM has everything from mansions to modern museums to old, historic homes. We are getting married at the Anthony Wayne House because we wanted a very classic and natural setting, with both outdoor and indoor spaces. Our reception will be just off the stone historic home in a clear tent that is lined with mason jar lights and filled with farmhouse tables. LOVE!! There is even a fire pit where we will make smores! All of their food is farm-to-table fresh and alcohol is BYO, so we are looking to that to help keep costs down. Check them out here http://jamcater.com/ and http://partyspace.com/philadelphia/venue/anthony-wayne-house.

I am newly engaged and we are also looking for a rustic venue that is INDOOR as we are planning a December wedding. We are also trying to remain frugal (no more than 15,000). Our guest count is between 150-200. Thanks for keeping this forum going - it’s been extremely helpful so far!

Hi all, we are getting married in June at the John James Audubon Center. The venue is indoor if needed—we are having our cocktail hour in a barn and our reception in a pavilion with the option to enclose the space if needed. The planning process has been great so far—it’s catered by Jeffrey Miller Catering, which is farm to table and great for foodies! There are different tiers to the menu so you can make it as afforable or extravagant as you want. And the bar is BYO which we are finding definitely cuts down on cost. Hope this helps!
