Need Guestbook Pen Suggestion

Amy, on June 16, 2014 at 8:38 AM Posted in Planning 0 3

FH and I bought a photomat to have our guests sign instead of a traditional guestbook. FH wants to use gel pens - I'm worried they'll smudge. He says the Sharpie pens won't smudge, and I looked it up online and it says they're "smear resistant." I'm fine using them - I'd prefer to use them - but I'm fearful they'll smudge because people will just be signing the mat one after another and won't wait for the ink to fully dry. Does anyone have experience with this sort of thing?

These are the pens I bought for my photo book guestbook. I bought them because a seller on Etsy was selling them to go along with her thumbprint tree guest book so I figured they were the type of pens I wanted. They say they're waterproof, fade resistant, no smears, feathers or bleedthrough on most papers

You need archival quality pens. This is what we used, I think: http://www.amazon.com/Sakura-30061-3-Piece-Micron-Blister/dp/B000XAORIS/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1402922744&sr=8-9&keywords=archival+pens

The Sharpie may not smudge but it will not stay looking as nice for a long period of time.

Sharpie has a red hue in direct light. Graphite will last forever, but it will smuge if people rub on it too much while writing. Microns are good, but they are named for their size (small writing point) which may be good or bad depending on the size of your mat. India ink is fantastic but can be messy. Just find a good size pen that says archival and quick drying.
