Need dress help! Learning a tango for our first dance

Embunny, on July 31, 2017 at 11:40 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10

Hello Brides!

I'm a September bride this year (Sept 30 2017) and I'm recently got myself into a dress dilemma. My fiance' are taking dancing lessons and learning an Argentine tango for our first dance (I'm Argentine) and our dance teacher recommends wearing a dress that at the longest calf-length so I can do all the moves kicks and stuff. I got my wedding dress back in December (photo here -- its Maggie Sottero GIanna Marie ) and I'm absolutely in love with it. Its completely beaded and long. Fully bustled its floor length.

My issue now is that I won't be able to comfortably do my first dance in the dress that I have and love. Should I go for another reception / party dress? I really want to wear my dress as long as possible. I think I can probably tell the dance teacher I can't do the tango kicks and keep the dance really simple instead. But thats kind of a bummer. Thoughts? HELP

Yes, @Mrs. Fall Bride, thank you. I'm really leaning towards staying in the dress I love the whole night. The dance is only two minutes long!!

My FH had a funny idea that we should do a "costume change" and that I should wear a fun red tango dress and then change back into my wedding dress after the dance but that also seems like a a lot of hassle for a 2 min dance. LOL.

My dress is actually really easy to get in and out of. I think I could do a quick change...

Thanks guys! I love my dress! So glad you guys like it too.

So what do you guys think of doing a quick change into a red tango dress? Is that weird?

I'm now sort of leaning towards keeping my dress on the whole time and just changing the dance to make it more simple...

I like the idea of a costume change. You've both been working hard on the dance and it's honoring your culture. Don't nix the dance, you have a solution here.

We have a verdict... I'll be doing the costume change. I ordered a white dress instead of something too costume-y that was on sale for the dance that I can hopefully wear to my bridal shower too... Thanks everyone for your help!

How did it go? I'm so glad I found this thread because I'm facing the same issue.. was going to talk with my seamstress about adding a hoop in my ball-gownish dress so I didn't trip myself. I've only been tangoing for 3 years so I don't have kicks to show off.. but I know so much of the dance is happening at the legs!

Hi @Carlssa, it went great! The dance was super memorable and a wonderful moment of the wedding. We had a couple of missed steps but nobody cared and my family LOVED it.

I got a super cute, short, white dress with fringe on it from BHLDN and changed into that right before the dance. I talked to my seamstress about altering my gown and she said it was impossible so this was the best solution for me. The only downside is that I was sad to take off my super glamorous wedding gown to change into the reception dress. I wanted to put the other dress back on after the dance but that was the small sacrifice to make for the dance and all the work that went into it. Photo here of the big moment!
