Need *affordable*, Venue in Tri-state Area (nj, Ny, Ct)

Ao, on December 24, 2017 at 10:53 AM Posted in New York Planning 0 18

Hi Everyone! we recently just got engaged and wanted to know if $15k wedding for 75-80 people in the Tri State area was possible. We would prefer NYC but are willing to travel an hour or so outside of the city (North Jersey, Long Island, Westchester, etc)

We would also like a Saturday Wedding but are open to Friday night. Some things that we require:

Ceremony

Cocktail Hour (We are Fine with just Wine and Beer / hors d'oeuvre)

Seated Dinner with Open Bar

Are Dates are pretty open in 2019 (March 30th - third weekend of October, Possibly second week of November as well)

My fiancé and I are doing $10,000 for a wedding in the D.C area, which has so far been very affordable. We’ve had to shop around a bit, but the effort has been worth it. Not sure how comparable D.C is to NYC but that may help give you an idea.

Is this the budget for just the venue? My venue was a little bit higher than that but i have 140 people. It’s also depends on what you want for a venue. Do you want a ball room? Saturday is going to me more expensive. And time of year makes all the difference. My venue doubles in price for may-June and sept-October.

Check out Astoria Manor in Queens. I have seen mixed reviews, but the events I have attended there I enjoyed.

Renaissance Event Hall in Queens should be within your budget, if that’s just for venue and catering. I was quoted ~21K for more guests than that, but we decided on another venue. If your total budget (venue, catering, photographer, dress, officiant, etc) is $15K, you’re going to have a hard time in the areas you’re looking at.

Astoria World Manor is very inexpensive and is a huge event space, but I wouldn’t have a wedding there. It is super outdated, needs some major work (I remember broken tiles in the bathroom), and is really dirty. I was there for a work event, and we were kind of disgusted by what we saw (filthy ceiling drapery, dirty linens, critters, etc.) I wouldn’t touch that place at all.

There’s also the Van Cortlandt Golf House in the Bronx. It needs a lot of decor to make it look pretty, but it should also be within your range. As with any venue, especially those that are very inexpensive, you should schedule a tour and really take a close look at the spaces, especially the bathrooms. Read through every review, and take note of the negatives. Good luck in your search!

Our wedding is $6,400 for 91 people at Doolans Shore Club in Spring Lake NJ. It’s all inclusive and has everything you’re looking for. I’m incredibly happy with it and would highly recommend it! I attached a picture of the ceremony space I found online 😊

While at times it might seem impossible in the area, do a ton of research and you will definitely find a beautiful place in your budget. 15k is not unrealistic for that amount of people in this area once you look past the big name venues. We are looking at a budget between 20k-25k for more like 130-140 people on Long Island, including all the vendors, extra expenses, honeymoon, tipping, etc. We are getting married at a Lessings venue (Smithtown landing country club) that offers a great all inclusive package. Many of the Lessings venues will do a smaller minimum like you have for a Saturday afternoon wedding. I've also heard The Sterling has a great all inclusive package if you are looking to stay a little closer to Manhattan, and I've heard of people getting great quotes from Soundview and Bridgeview Yacht Club. We only looked at venues in Suffolk county so I don't know much about those personally!

Check out The Waterview in Monroe, CT. The food is amazing and the views are gorgeous. I think with food, open bar, chairs/tables/linens and cake it comes out to $100-ish per person. The quoted us about $5 more per head for the ceremony space. We ultimately chose a venue closer to our home but it is very very nice there.

It’s slightly more than an hour from the city but you won’t find much that’s more affordable any closer.

NYC here. We spent about double that budget ($31k for a Sunday night wedding for 77 people) in NYC. You might want to consider a Thursday.

Check out Deity in Brooklyn. The space is beautiful (lots of exposed brick, wood floors). You wouldn’t have enough people for a Saturday but difinitely a Sunday. They also provide lots of candles for the ceremony, cocktail hour and reception and ceremony/dinner space already has a fairy light backdrop. Venue also includes DJ and DOC. We got married on a Sunday in an off peak month (August) and it cost about $14k for 73 people (ensue/catering/full open premium bar/DJ).

The Graycliff in Moonachie NJ - my sister had her wedding there. We are using Marina del Rey in NY. Both might be able to work with you. Saturday is going to be tough for a NY venue. Do some research and you'll find the place which makes you happy. Good Luck and Congrats.

Look into Chalet on the Hudson in Cold Spring NY. Beautiful venue on the Hudson River and many affordable options (including all inclusive with DJ, centerpieces, cake)

Check out Lessings venues on Long Island. They have great all inclusive venues and they will do smaller weddings (under 100 people for Saturday day weddings). We booked Smithtown Landing Country Club specifically.
