Nay to wedding cake

Alicia & Vince, on March 30, 2017 at 11:31 PM Posted in Planning 0 12

Wedding location: Rio Grande, Puerto Rico;

My fiancé and I have decided to go against a wedding cake. It's not important to us but a great dessert table is. However, the two bakers I've been negotiating with, don't offer dessert tables without a cake order. Can anyone recommend someone that will deliver a great dessert table w/o cake??

    Check out Love at First Bite (Dorado,PR).

    The baker I selected, Gabriel Diaz Cake designer, is amazing; if you decide on going the cake route

    JJ, we 1st went the same route. Then we starting asking ourselves the important questions "what do WE want; what is most important to US", and it wasn't the $400 cake that we don't care to eat or even take a photo with. We prefer to delegate our funds towards entertainment, liquor and food: things we feel guests truly remember.

    Good for you Alicia & Vince, you should do what YOU want, it's your wedding after all. If you don't want cake, it seems ridiculous to get one just because *some* guests might want cake.

    That's stupid. An order is an order, why would they turn down business.

    I wasn't going to do a cake, but then realized, wait! Cake is my favorite dessert ever! LOL... we are doing a small cake for us, a small cake for each of our daughters (surprise for them) then we are having cake shooters for guests, along with some other types of desserts from a local bakery known for their dessert bars (kalhua brownies for instance... ) we aren't going to do as big of a dessert bar as we planned now that we have cake....

    I was talking to a friend of mine who was asking how plans were coming along... I mentioned to her our plans for a dessert bar, she said, 'you're having cake right? the whole reason i go to weddings is to eat cake!!!!" this was said in a tongue and cheek way, not a uppity weird way... anyway, we started to talk about it though and both of us came to the conclusion that it would seem like something was missing without the cake cutting...not that this matters or anything, but between the two of us we've been to a LOT of weddings and always see cake... with that said, we're also in our 40's so when we were in our 20's it was not a thing to have a dessert bar....

    I would try to order the smallest cake possible so that they would put in your order for the other desserts Smiley tongue

    My DH and I don't like cake, so we went for desserts as well. To avoid the confusion a few other members have mentioned we did to a dessert cutting, we just cut a pie instead of a cake Smiley smile

    The WW vendor tab does have a page or two of cake makers in PR, and though I have not researched them thoroughly several do have names that indicate they do more than wedding cakes, I'd start firing off the emails and see what response you get.

    Alternatively, don't go with a wedding cake specialist bakery, go to a regular bakery. For my wedding we did donuts and pie and we went to a small local professional bakery for our order.

    We decided on cupcakes because that's what we like, while were not cutting them, I don't think confusion will be an issue because we have our DJ announcing when dessert is served as he is also going to be announcing when dinner is served, and when the toasts will take place. It just takes coordination.

    How was the cake made by Gabriel Diaz ? Was it moist? Did it taste good? We are looking at him for a potential cake vendor, but there arent many reviews about him...

    The cake was absolutely delicious!! One of the best cakes I’ve ever had. We ordered way more servings than needed and nothing we left
