I will try a nail strengthener and growth serum. I have 3 kids, so going to the salon weekly isnt a reality for me, but i surely can polish my own nails. I can also try gum, i try to keep some in my bag, but rarely think to grab that as a 1st option. Thank you all for the suggestions.

    I'm a nail biter too!

    Mostly when I'm stress.

They have this thing at CVS called no bite. You paint it on your nails. And it tastes like crude. It definitely deterred me from biting.

I've been a big nail bitter most of my life. But I've been able to stop. Here's what worked for me.

    1) Put on nail polish. It tastes gross so when I would go to bite my nails it would stop me because I didn't want to eat the nail polish.

    2) Carry a nail clipper with me at all times. When I feel the urge to bite my nails, I instead use the nail clipper to nicely remove the nail or skin that is bothering me. It keeps my fingers looking much nicer and allows for my nails to grow better than if I had bitten them.

Hope that helps. I had lovely nails for my wedding and I'm so glad I was able to stop biting them.

Gel for sure. They will help them grow and you won't want to bite gels. They also look super natural.

I started taking PreNatal Vitamins and it really helped grow them out.

Getting a good manicure helped me not bite them. Good Luck! Smiley smile

I was a huge nail bitter for years on end!! Even when i used the nail polish that tasted bad i would just end up picking my nails instead and they would still look ugly. Here's what i did to fix this-i went to the nail salon and got my nails done with regular polish. They would look too short and a little ugly but better than nothing and then i had the motivation to not bite/pick bc i wanted so bad for beautiful nails and i was one step closer with these somewhat ugly nails lol! But after two weeks right as the polish was peeling off and i was tempted to bite i went back into the salon for a gel treatment and came out with stronger beautiful nails and never wanted to bite them again bc they looked too pretty! From time to time i give into temptation but just getting them done motivates me to stay on track! Hope this helps!

Take vitamins! Nature valley hair skin and nail. I have been taking them and my nails grow faster than I can handle! Also try dipping fingers in apple cider vinegar it is very good for your nails and it tastes super nasty so it can help prevent nail biting !

I'm definitely a nail biter. As long as I have polish on my nails I don't bite. I'm horrible at doing my own nails, but if I accidentally pick at the polish I'll just fill it in and keep doing that. I find I pick more if it's a manicure I did myself. If I get a professional manicure I like to do something fun because as long as there's a design I won't go for it.

I also found that if I shape my nails in an almond shape I don't bite them because the shape is pointy and I notice as soon as my finger is in my mouth (have to get them grown out first though to do this).

Definitely just go with tips. I don't know the name of it, but my mom got a treatment where you dip your fingers in this powder and then add tips and it strengthens them a lot so it's harder to bite (she doesn't bite, but has really brittle nails so they break a lot).

As far as the wedding nails go, I think you have to give in at this point. BUT my mom used to put this nail bitter stuff on me when I was a kid. It tasted SO gross so you wouldn't want to bite them. I've always been a nail biter though and it's worse when I'm stressed. I started getting gel manicures a few years ago and my nails grow like crazy and they are way healthy. I don't bite them anymore cause paint=ew. I can't even believe how long and healthy they are now. I always thought I just couldn't grow nails but it was my own fault. I totally recommend trying the gel mani!

I tried the nasty tasting polish before too and I STILL bit them! It tasted bad but I guess my habit was worse than it tasted:/

I get gel manicures every two weeks because I'm a nail biter and I can't stand not having my nails done.

I'm a nail biter (I feel like this turned into Nail Biters Anonymous lol), and I can't afford weekly salon trips either. I keep my nails painted and it deters me from biting because I worked so hard on them and my hands look nicer lol. For me it's an anxiety thing too, so I've started taking up other forms of letting out the anxiety and stress.

Finding your trigger for nail biting might help too, so you can replace the nail biting with something else (i.e. gum, exercise, etc depending on the trigger) while you have your nails done.

I am a reformed nail biter. My nails are still short now, but that is mainly because they break. I tried acrylics and hated it. I also don't want to have to keep up with gels b/c of the expense etc. Here is what worked for me.

    1) Being more conscious - when I would start to bite my nails, I would take a second and think: why am I doing this, etc?

    2) Wear polish - even if it is a clear polish, always wear something on your nails.

    3) Use a nail strengthener like nail envy

    Hope this helps!

I've taken Biotin and Prenatals. I'm currently doing Biotin and nail strengthener (OPI) and that has been helping. I also bought Stop The Bite and put it on the places I would chew. I've tried some before but this brand does the trick. It takes a really long time to get the taste out of your mouth too!

So gel is good for the nails?? I tried it once, but when i took it off, off came the very top layer of my nails also and it took a while for them to get back to normal. How do you get the gel off when you just want to have your natural nail showing?

    Hi I'm Ayreka and I'm a nail biter. #NailBitersAnonymous

But really, getting my nails done professionally every two weeks isn't possible but I use an at home gel kit. Its really easy and looks pretty and when my nails are pretty I don't want to bite them

Jeaneen and OP, when gel is removed it should not be completely filed off or have your whole hand soaking in acetone. Either of those methods wrecks your natural nails. They should just scuff it up with an emery board and use foil or wraps to hold cotton with the acetone and then gently scrape off the gel. After that they should proceed with a typical mani.

I am a horrible nail biter and have tried to stop for years. I'm planning on having fake nails for my day. I'm stressed enough planning to worry about my nails.

Peel some garlic and rub them on the tip of your nails it helps to strengthen them (so I've heard) or you can put a piece of garlic in clear coat nail polish to help whenever you use it.

You don't have much time to grow your nails, I was going to suggest you get tips for now to let them grow out without you being able to bite them but its a little too close to your wedding. Get a regular manicure though, it'll make you not want to bite because they are so pretty
