My Wedding Photographer disappeared...

MrsReed, on January 14, 2014 at 10:10 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 29

So after coming back from my honeymoon on Nov 15th (Wedding Nov 10), I contacted my wedding photographer to see what would be the process of choosing the photos for the book and canvas in addition to ordering more prints. Mainly because my mom wanted to place an order for herself at the same time as mine in order to save time. Well I received no response from him. So I waited another week or so, texted him. No response.

I backed off until December when it was about 1.5 months since the wedding. Contract said photos would be received at 2 months, but I simply had questions. So I called, texted, emailed...nothing. It is now over 2 months and he's still not responding and I don't have any proofs/ photos, nothing. I am really tempted to drive to the address listed on the contract...I've already started contacting previous Brides from his FB page as well to see if they went through the same to get their photos...

Am I worrying too much? What should I do??

Yea, go visit him. If the store front is blank THEN that's when I'd start to worry.

Yep go to the address, and if needed contact your local news stations. Most of them have investigation reporters who would love to catch this story to help you.

Small claims court? If he's not upholding the terms of his contract a letter from an attorney should do the trick. I wouldn't show up at his home. People are CRAZY.

He should at least acknowledge you.

Send a certified letter to his address to request the proofs/photois. If you have any lawyer friends, ask them if they wouldn't mind to send it on their letterhead. You may also look into a service like this one: www.legalshield.com

There is a really bad review on his WW page-- looks like she got married right before you did :/

I'm thinking of grabbing my husband and popping up to that address after work. This entire "no response" thing makes no sense at all...I don't know what to do and I'm beginning to freak out Smiley sad

Even if the pictures still weren't ready, it would have been ok if he had responded to you. It's concerning that he hasn't gotten back to you at all. Go to his house.

I wouldn't show up at his house. That could get ugly.

DO NOT GO TO HIS HOUSE!! He could file a lawsuit against you for harrassment. Certified letter to start-- you can threaten legal action if he doesn't respond, but don't go to his house!!!!!

Not so unusual to work from home; a lot of my photographer friends do, but I probably wouldn't show up there.

Send a certified letter with a signed receipt confirmation.

The other brides have not responded to me yet. I wrote them on FB (he tagged them in some "preview" pics from their wedding.

One Bride did respond though. She said that she had a similar experiance, but at the 2 month mark, a cd with the photos came in her mail from him. I didn't want to be nosey and ask what package she ordered, but mine comes with more than the pics on disk. So I expect to ATLEAST see proofs sooner than I see a cd.

You might also post a review here; we all get notified when a review is posted, and I can tell you that if I got one that was scathing or at the very least worried, I would contact that bride IMMEDIATELY.

Hmm... Sounds like he has issues with communicating, but it's been two months now and no contact.

Oh wow...so I guess a new review was posted yesterday for him and that bride is going through the same thing.... Smiley sad

I won't go to his house. I'm going to send the certified letter.

I can't believe that this is happening to me. I have no photos from that day. None.

Please don't go to his house. Do make sure you keep copies of all communications you have had with him, and get everything in writing (print out and save any emails). Keep dated copies of any and all letters you send to him in case you need to get a lawyer involved. The better your paper trail, the better your case.

Did you purchase insurance for your event? If you did, your policy may cover some or all of the cost of "retaking" wedding photos in the event that your photographer lost or does not produce your photos. Probably can't restage the reception in that case, but you can at least have nice portraits taken! Good luck!

That is awful! I don't have any advice other than what the other ladies have posted - send the letter rather than showing up to his house!!

Good luck - I hope you get your photos.

Sending positive thoughts you way! I'm sorry you are going through this. Hopefully you will come home from work an a package will be there Smiley smile at least If you get a cd you can get nice canvases some where and work on getting your money back. We're rooting for you! But do get that letter to him and say you'll take him to court if need be!
