My wedding flowers were disappointing

Zaina, on May 11, 2023 at 11:33 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 7
Maybe someone who knows more about flowers can manage my expectations?
My wedding flowers cost about $6700. A bulk of the cost was our ceremony arch. I ordered an arch, bouquet, 15 table arrangements, 3 corsages, and 6 boutonnieres.
Most of the flowers were kinda droopy and wilted by the time it was the ceremony.
All of the boutonnieres and corsages were wilted by the time came. My grooms boutonniere looked dead in our photos. Those were the MOST disappointing considering the other vendoes only charge $15 and she charged $35 for a droopy carnation.
My bouquet also was droopy but luckily she replaced the drooping flowers.
My ceremony arch flowers were all slightly wilted. Mind you they were outside since 1 pm and our ceremony was at 5. 70°.
Also the table arrangements were just 1 tiny bouquet in a vase. For $150 per table. Am I missing something?? Is this normal?? Never seen slightly droopy/wilted flowers at a wedding.
Our florist insisted her team will show up early to prevent people from stealing the vases.. they showed up an hour after it was over and 5 went missing. Florist proceeds to let me know she's going to charge me for them. I literally found them on Amazon for $10. Meanwhile she told me she was going to invoice me $500 bc they're special curated pieces she finds at vintage shops and such.

Do you have any inspiration photos that you shared with her (or vice versa) that you can show her compared to what you received? Did you talk about specific types of flowers or how many stems/vase? These details are usually outlined when discussing vases, etc. If you have receipts you can always go back to your florist and ask for a partial refund.

Yes! For me the flowers and stems were beautiful! I'm not picky at all about the type. I have her color pallet. My inspo flower for center pieces were definitely larger. I can let that go..they were just droopy and did not look fresh! I don't know if maybe I don't know enough about flowers or what but my grooms flower was completed dead. And that was disappointing.

Can you upload pics of your flowers? Did the florist detail their plan on storing in contract? How do you know they didn't come by until later? I think it's good to present to them all the evidence and witnesses when you complain.

I was inside the venue until the end and they told me they would come 1 hour before reception to stop people at the door to prevent people taking vases.

I don't have photos yet. I will soon. The flowers matched the contract.. but the contract did not mention receiving droopy flowers 😅. I want to reiterate again... The flowers color and type etc were not the issue. It was the freshness.

Yes, the florists I interviewed detailed their methods for overnight cool storage of assembled pieces and their transport specifics in the contract and in the interview. Was your wedding during a hot spell? What flowers comprise the bulk of your arrangements-- carnations? Some flowers are heartier than others in standing transport and heat. If you want some money back or want to contest the additional rental/ theft charges, then you'll need evidence of her not fulfilling her promises.

I got her vases back and honestly I found them on Amazon so before I would allow her to bill me I'll just ship them to her. I got them back. I was just disappointed how she went about it. Felt a bit rude and short like I'm going to bill you for some $10 Amazon vases. If I'd known I would have let my family keep them and bought them from Amazon not bothered getting them back. Would have cost me $50

Yes! Boutonnieres were carnations. I didn't specify flowers though when I talk to a florist I expected her to know what to do considering the groom is taking photos for up to 3-4 hours before. I just specified color pallets and provided the schedule for the day.
Not hot spell normal weather for spring 70°.

Hey there - curious as to what happened with this? Just had my wedding recently and had a similar issue with flowers being droopy or broken in the bouquets when they were dropped off before the ceremony even began.
