My wedding dress is too SHORT!

Private User, on September 8, 2015 at 9:24 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 7

I think I am the only bride ever to have ordered a dress and it was too short! I thought they made those things long on purpose! Have any other brides had this problem?

How tall are you? And how long is the dress? Is it that it is too short when you wear the shoes you wanted to wear, or too short when you are wearing flats? Has it been altered, and can the hem be let out at all?

Do you mean a short dress or a dress that was meant to be long and it is short on you?

It depends on the dress style I guess. I bought mine right off the rack and because of the organza the seamstress couldn't do anything to lengthen it. Can they let out the hem at all for you?

I am only 5'8". Not unusually tall. And it is too short when I am in flats! It is organza, with no hem.

Mine was slightly too short after I removed the hoop, but I am 6' tall and didnt order extra length so that was kinda expected.

How short are we talking? Like, barely noticeable or a few inches? If it's a couple inches, you can have maybe have it look like it's on purpose with some cute, colored shoes.

Fortunately, you can add some organza under-layers to drop it down if you want, but be sure that 'too short' really is too short for the style. If it's a trumpet or mermaid, for example, for sure no one is going to notice a 1-2" difference.

When you walk, you're going to see your feet no matter what. I wore a 1 3/4" heel, but hemmed the dress to wear with flats so I wasn't dragging it and tripping through my reception, and it was PERFECT. IMO, a little shorter is a lot easier to deal with in the end. In the pic, I'm in the 1 3/4" shoes.

As for the standard length: my SIL is 5'10", and she ordered extra length, and the dress *just* touched the floor....The average American woman is 5'4", so yes, most dresses are too long for those of us in that demographic.
