My vistaprint order, the good, bad, and ugly.

Shellie, on July 26, 2011 at 11:07 PM Posted in Planning 0 32

My first big order of things from vistaprint arrive today, right. Some stuff looks great, other stuff I was less then impressed with.

The Good- the invites and rsvp's look great. I got a free tote (okay, it raised the shipping cost by $1) and i absolutely LOVE it. I also did some other free things like car doors magnets, a pen, a key chain, and a bumper sticker and they all look good to me.

The Bad- Our STD cards came out with crooked borders on all of them, it's not huge but slightly annoying. Also the color didn't come out quite right. I know they are glossy and not matte like the other cards- but you can see little dots in the yellow that you can't see in the other ones. they aren't perfect- but they are good enough for me.

The ugly- My magnets. they came out horribly crooked, one side practically has no border, and you can see the little dots around all the words. I know the file size, etc is right because I used their template. Might complain and see if they will re-do them.

Also on the bad- some of the envelopes they sent (maybe 10) were slightly dirty. At first I was kind of pissed, but then i realized the envelopes would have probably gotten dirty when we mail them out anyways. so i'm not going to stress about it.

Photo's above: the crooked borders. if you look VERY closely you can sort of se the little dots around the STD magnet letters.

second picture clockwise from bottom left: car door magnet that i really like, car door magnet that is bleh, my tote, the keychain (has the same logo as the tote), the invites, the RSVP, STD postcard and magnet, the pen.

The only things that have the vistaprint logo on them are the free pen and the bumper sticker which i didn't picture.

I'm really happy with everything besides the STD stuff.

What were you using the magnets for?

At least the invites came out good :-)

Just saw your pics, that really sucks

I had a friend order all of her stuff from VistaPrint and they turned out horrible. She had similar problems with hers as well that you mentioned. Hope you can get them redone, she couldn't get hers redone and she didn't have time to have them redone either Smiley sad Good luck!

After placing and receiving my order, I officially can say I will never use them again. WAY less than impressed.

My daddy always told me that you get what you pay for, though. He is right.

@natacha- we are using the magnets as part of out STD's.

@Amanda, i did a few trial runs for my invites first, they re-did one of them for free for me when the color wasn't right- the other one i paid for because it was me messing with color so it wasn't their fault. So far I've been happy with everything besides the STD stuff.

While I like Vista Print for some things, I would not have used them for invitations. We used a local printer for my daughters invitations, thank you cards and RSVP cards. We did not send out STD's.

I had a problem with uneven-ly cut christmas photo cards last year. I called and they re-reprinted for no charge! Anytime I have ordered something and have contacted them, their customer service has been superb. However, I agree with KathyR- I have used them for some things, but I probably wouldn't do invitations. To each her own....

I'm glad that you like most of your stuff. I did my rsvp postcards, drink tickets and invites on vistaprint and so far so good. Everything turned out perfect.

How fast was the turn around the first time they did a reprint? You have time to ask for new magnets. And if they are the nicer, thicker envelopes, ask for 10 new ones too, then you have some to spare if you mess up the addresses.

I'm really glad your invites turned out good. I know you did a lot of work on them to get them right. Did you do the linen paper for the invite? or the 100lb? It looks like they turned out nice from what I can see spacing wise.

The first time they did the re-do I think it was less then a week for me to get them.

I definitely have time to re-o the STDs, I'm not sending them out till either November or Jan, still haven't decided.

We ended up not going for the thicker envelopes, just the regular ones, and we will put a tissue or vellum insert in them.

As far as the invites- we ended up going with the linen paper. I SO though i wanted the the thick matte, but i did a trial in linen and just well in love with it. though our rsvp cards are just in the normal matte paper.

I'm going to e-mail them today and see if i can re-do the magnets without a border- and maybe if they can say why they think the printing didn't come out as well. Really i'm probably the only one who will notice the printing (i seem to always notice things others can't see) But everyone can see the crooked border.

I would definitely call if you are not satisfied. Here is the # I use to get customer on the phone, 800-961-2075. When I have called they immediately fixed all my issues.

I have never had any issues with VistaPrint, but I only used them for a yard sign, my programs and my menu cards.

I used 123print.com for everything else and LOVED the results of everything I got from them.

Sucks.. but they are a mass printer site.. and all kinds of people use them. (Vista) If you are not happy, for sure call and mention a bad review.. they will most likely jump to help you.

The only thing I paid for from vista print was shipping on 250 business cards to place at guest tables for photo uploads. They turned out decent.

I was originally going to order my wedding pograms from them, but thought they looked a little cheap considering the venue we are using. I bought 40 programs for $28 from Michaels. The 40 turned into 54 because I used 3 pieces, instead of four the box displayed to make the fan programs. I printed and assembled them last evening and they look great! If you are willing to put a little time into some things, Michaels actually offers great deals when you can apply your 40 or 50% off coupon. For 120 invitations, I paid $100. I did print and assemble them all myself, but to me it was totally worth it. They turned out beautiful and looked like a very elegant ivitation purchased from a printing company.

I was less than impressed with my STD (glossy) postcards. The color was terrible and it seemed like the white color from the lettering bled into the black background. I was too leary to order my invites from them after that, so I am DIYing them.
